I will be buying an Evo 9 soon and want to know the difference between the regular Evo 9 and the MR. I've looked at the specs on a couple different sites and the only difference I see is the MR has a 6th gear. I'm sure there are more differences and want to know what they are. Thanks

There aren't really that many differences actually. The MR is more geared toward the buyer that is going to be "trashing" the car, as it's lighter then the standard 9 among other things. The 6 speed is actually a weaker gear box then the 5 speed that comes in the 9. To be honest, the standard 9 (if you plan on modding it (which I'm sure you do) is the better buy...

MR has a better suspension ( Bilstein shocks) an aluminum roof ( lighter weight, lower center of gravity) and different wheels ( BBS in the EVO 8, I think you can get them in different trim packages in the 9)

I have an Evo 8 MR and I wish I had bought the regular Evo. Same power, the suspension differences are not noticable to me....but the price was. The 6 speed is said to be weaker, but the only people who I know that have broken them were generally pretty harcore track guys. The 5 speed is definately the choice for the hardcore.

The differences are not worth it IMHO, go with the standard Evo 9. If they were the same price...I guess the MR would be a better buy ( for the suspension) but overall, they are basically the same.

I suggest a IX SE model. They were a late 06 model, supposed to be mitsubishi's 07 but would not pass 07 safety standards(needed side airbags). My daily driver is a Black SE and I love it. You get the 5 speed, HID headlights, aluminum roof, BBS wheels, and red stiched seats. Almost a MR, but w/the more desireable 5 speed. Only downside is no Bilsteins, but those can always be added.

Get the evo9. It has longer gear ratios. Not to mention it would help you squeeze out more of each gear than the 6 speed.

What? EVO 9 MR weighs less than the GSR or RS? Are you 100% sure about that?? :hmm:

Yeah, if you're gonna build a fast car and throw some big power at the car, launch it hard often...go GSR, or SE. If you're gonna do some conservative mods and not really race it too much, but want a little more styling/bling..MR.

Dude, you have a mazda..first post on this forum..and you're planning to buy an EVO? You're definitely not in the right place. Get over to norcalevo.net, evoempire.net, evolutionm.net...and get your EVO info by the bucket loads. :ohdamn:

evolutionm.net is a great call, my friends with evo's have staked their cars lives on the stuff said there. we're humble DSM owners... we'll talk about :talon::laser::dsm: all day but we can't give u everything about evo's.

(get the reg. evo 9 btw, MR isnt worth it)

GOOD LUCK! :thumb:

SE>GSR,MR,RS

Unless you are hung up on leather, sunroof and factory sub a SE pwns the GSR. SE is only 70lbs heaver then the RS!

Thanks for all the info! Just for a little background, I just had a son 8 months ago so I needed a 4dr and I wanted AWD and turbo. I got the speed6 because I couldn't afford an Evo and I don't like working on Subies. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the SE or GSR because they're probably cheaper and I hate the constant shifting of the 6 speed.
