hey all, first post on this forum. nice place...anyways...

i read on ebay ppl with 2g eclipses are doing an engine swap from the evo into the eclipse. i know the engine from the evo is a "7 bolt"...but can someone elaborate on what that means? are they talking about the amount of head bolts?

and what physical differences are there between the evo 4g63T and the eclipse awd 4g63T? i was getting curious if this engine could be bolted into a 91 eclipse gsx fairly easily.

thanks in advance...

Depends on what EVO your talking about. If your refering to the current generation EVO then there is no way. It's totally backwards to how our motors are.

THe Evo 1-3 (I believe) are 7-Bolt but will work in the DSM chassis. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm not much of a JDM guy.

It says it is out of an Evo 1-3 so yes it will work. There are people on this board who have done this swap.

You already have a competent motor. And like stated above you cannot use an EVO IV-VIII motor. Here is some information http://www.jpdirect.co.uk/lancer_evo.htm as to the differemces among the EVOs. The difference between the USDM and JDM motors are very extensive, but to include SOME things: 7.8:1 compression to 8.8:1, larger turbo, bigger injectors, and not to mention FAR fewer documented cases of design flaws :crankwalk: ahem. There is a lot of information http://www.roadraceengineering.com/4g63motorsearch.htm
there but you can do a lot more with your motor while saving you the amount of money it takes to purchase one.

Welcome to the club, Happy reading. :D

Nobody has mentioned yet that he owns a 91 dsm, 6-bolt. The 7-bolt evo 1-3 enigne will not work in your car without modification.

Just so you know, the terms 6-bolt and 7-bolt reffer to the number of flywheel bolts on the crankshaft.

competent motor = 6 bolt and there hasnt been near as many IF any cases of a JDM motor having crankwalk

yea, i've determined (with the help of you guys) that my stock engine would suffice me the best. i'm not lookin for any crazy numbers...just a little higher than stock would be nice. exhaust, B16G turbo, intake, and injectors...that's about as far as i wanna take this car...it's gonna be a daily driver.

thanks for all the insight...

plus a jdm motor will be a little ass backwards for you i *think* because of jdm cars are right hand drive, so everyhtings in different places. not to metion that evo 1-3 motors cost $$$
