i was told by a buddy that when the old evos were still on the 4g63 block the trans would be able to swop to a 1 g dsm. i have a 90 tsi and i was wondering if it was possible, would it be an up grade. im running a motor with 500 to 600 whp and its time to upgrade my drive train

You want a Evo III tranny. The Evo 4+ is when the motor and tranny were turned around.

The evo tranny has a different ratio ring and pinion so it will not be a drop in replacement. In order for it to work, you would either have to swap the ring and pinion from your stock tranny into the evo tranny or you could try and source an evo rear end. By the time you spend the money it would take to acquire the tranny and mod it to work, you could have had your tranny built by shep or tre to handle whatever you decide to throw at it.

And as stated, you would have to use an evoIII or earlier tranny. The evo IV and newer tranny's sit in the chassis opposite of a dsm. And all evo's up to the current evo IX still uses the 4g63 engine.

It just will not work I told that to a lot of people that wanted my extra tranny I had for my 95 evolution III. You will have more problems than it would be worth to get it to work. just send yours to shep. the only thing the eIII tranny have that are better are clutch lsd's,steel shift forks, dubble sycnros. the things that you would have done any way.
