I just bought a new EVO 16g with the install kit from Four Corners Performance on ebay for 725 bucks, not i bad deal i thought, well i got it in the mail yesterday and planning on installing this weekend. just had a couple questions about it. Right now the mods i have on my car is:

190lph walbro fuel pump
3" exaughst high flow catco cat
injen intake
1g bov
brode UICP

im going to change exaughst gasket to a new one and also o2housing to turbo and turbo to exaughst mani gaskets, questions i have are:

What else should i do while im doing this?
what boost do you think i can run without getting knock?
Does this turbo have a break in period that i shouldnt push it on?
also i need a exaughst mani stud cause i broke mine off in head :O and also a turbo stuf because i busted mine LOL, thanks guys

I wouldn't run over 16PSI until you get injectors and management..and thats if you can run 93, and nothing less. I wouldn't push a turbo very hard.. I might run stock boost (wastegate setting) for 100 miles... then start turning it up slowly.. but no more than 16psi. an evo III o2 housing would be the best match for your turbo and if you didn't get the wastegate mod, have fun with boost creep - that's what I'm dealing with on my 14B and my 3" exhaust.

I'd probably get a Front Mount soon and Right after that injectors and management.

if he got the 34mm wastegate option that would eliminate most of that boost creep...

people say 16psi, but every car is different. When i first got my 16g i was boosting 16psi with stock injectors and 190fp and i had lots of dips in timing. My honest opinion is to run a vacum line from the actuator and the T in bov line to run the psi the wastegate is set at which on my 16g was 14psi. I would do this until you get injectors just to be on the safe side. How much psi has people be running with a 2g with injectors/fp with stock smic?

i didnt get the 34mm flapper... because i have heard that if your exaughst is open enough you dont get boost creep, i guess its not true, how much does it cost for the flapper mod? i might just do that before i put it on

send that turbo back I got one and was one of the first dsms to have it on my car, and to tell you right now that turbo just does not do it! I wish I would have went with a 50trim but yeah boost creep will own you!! you can run 20lbs of boost safe!

had my evoIII on for about 500 miles now. turbo is strong with more midrange than i was expecting. got the turbo and evoIII 02 housing ported by slowboy and love it. only thing is i have the profec 2 set at 16psi and have crept to 25.3 and 26.0 psi. would recommend removing some material just before the wg flapper. gonna have to do it on mine.

yeah i didnt plan on taking that post serious unless i didnt want a car to drive for a while, well looks like i have some porting and wastegate mod to do, thanks for the help guys. still no one told me about getting the 34mm mod done, how can i go about this..

What exactly doesn't it do? Run 10s?

It will run 11.82 @ 117.55mph in a 3315lb 2G pretty damn well, though. :p

I would think around 15psi would be safe with those mods.

I have the 34mm flapper mod and mine does not creep. I have a 3" O2 eliminator DP and Apex'i N-1 though.

Just wish I would have went bigger thats all, I am not a big fan of this turbo, I got to drive a gst exatly like mine and same mods but had a 50trim and it was a huge difference! might end up buying a gt10 or gt12 soon! and I thought his injectors were upgraded so seeing that there not he should be running 15lbs max.

With 650s and a stock side mount I would get knock at 15psi around 5K. That turbo is too much for the stock side mount. It's fine if you keep the boost low but if you ever want to get into the high teens(psi), you'll need a fmic. After installing mine, with no changes to fuel, all knock went away. Leaned it out 10% still no knock. Turned it up to 18psi, still no knock. Crepty to about 22psi and still no knock on 91 oct pump. Makes a hell of a difference.

I had mine at 19psi on my stock sidemount and I could feel timing being pulled and see it in my logger, but I was on 93 or 93.5. I have since backed it down to 17 and the timing curves are much smoother as well as the car feeling smoother at high RPMs, but it just doesn't have that crazy top end like it used too. Running 19-20psi with a FMIC should be gravy with this turbo on 93.

Good choice on the EVO 3 turbo, in my opinion. I was able to flow 35 lbs/min with stock cams and 26 psi on race gas. That was using the stock, unhacked MAF as well.

I have the evo b16g, I bought it from slowboy and had the 34mm wastegate flapper installed by them also. I am sure you could send your turbo to them or if you can do it yourself they sell just the flapper for like $20.

I have 0 boost creep with this mod, but I also have an externally dumped o2 housing, EVO 3b16g has great potential if you can get it tuned, just like the other guy said there are at least a few cars that I can think of off the top of my head running 11's with this turbo, so a moderate tuner with the right parts should be able to get mid to low 12's. You should be happy with that for a good while in my opinion.

Good luck and have some fun along the way

Get some cams and you will add 5 to 7lbs to that number.

Pssshht, What do you know about EVO 16g's and DSMlink anyway? ;)

As for the breakin period, there is really not much that needs to be broken in. Treat it good for a day or two so the piston rings (in the turbo) get a nice chance to seat themselves on the shaft and thrust collar....just in case. Then beat the piss out of it.

Don't forget to get a gasket from the turbo to the oil drain line. You also may want to pick up another bolt to hold your turbo to the manifold so you don't have to reuse the stud. Good luck.
