Imagine a playing card taped onto your bike so it makes that noise on the spokes as you rode

That's what I hear when my car is accelerating, or even just cruising. At first I got scared cause i thought "OMG im Fux0r3d because my timing is off all of a sudden somehow and now my valves are bent." It also happens if the car is in neutral and i just rev the motor. The higher the rpms, the faster the knocking.

After extensive reading and thinking I dont think that's it. Some conclusions others have found are the charcoal canister for the purge valve?? More commonly I found people speak of a faulty knock sensor.

My question is how would either of the above conclusions be causing the noise that I am hearing from inside the valve cover?

Also I've been reading in a Haynes manual and it has some of its own conclusions. I won't go into those just yet; for now I'd simply like input from the wisemen.

TIA :dsm:

Yeah your valves are not bent. If they were your car wouldn't run. It wouldn't even turn over when you try to start it. As far as the what it is. What side is the noice coming from. If its a metallic tapping noice.(which is kinda what it sounds like) Its the tensioner pulley arm tapping the tensioner pulley. Same thing just happened to me. If that is what it is DO NOT DRIVE IT TILL ITS FIXED. Hope this helps

I'd definitely find out what it is. Pull the cam cover and look for any bluing on the camshafts. I'd hate to find out the hard way that it was a cam bearing or something.

Have you taken the upper t-belt cover off? Any wobbling or anything on the sprockets?

One of the mechanics who works with me went with me to take my car to his friend, who works at the Mitsu dealership.

We drove the car around to the back and had every single guy there outside lookin at my car. The consensus stood that they think my crank has walked the walk.

They said they cannot be 100% sure until they drop the pan and look into the crankcase. So I drove the car back to my shop and the mechanics there will pick the car up and drop the pan to do some more investigative work.

If it did walk, I will need a new shortblock. Does anyone know where I can get one besides from Mitsu? A shortblock from them will run ~$2000 :notgood:

On the plus side, according to the Mitsu techs, if I order a shortblock from Mitsu, it comes w/o the balance shafts :thumb:
