engine dies when i put the tranny in gear

Hi I just swaped out my 2g engine with a jdm one i found the engine fired right up but when i put the car in any gear it just dies out could theis be the torque converter?? its fine in park and neutral. thanks

Did the tranny/torque converter give you any problems before you did the swap?

nope the tranny was in great shape when i have the car on jack stands it will go in gear and spin the tires but as soon as the breaks are applied its dies could this possibly mean the torque converter was damaged some how?

Could be the damper clutch or the solenoid. Not something you see a lot of in Mitsus though. Mostly GM. If the damper clutch is stuck it would give you a direct hookup. Most likely solenoid.
