I live in Pennsylvania and my '97 GST was supposed to get inspected today, but the battery was previously unplugged and the ECU still has not reset because "there was not enough back-pressure in the (3inch cat back) exhaust to heat it up enough to reset the ECU fully." So, now my car cannot get inspected. Could a bad upstream O2 sensor cause this? I need to get this car inspected by September 30th. I heard to create heat in the exhaust, I can drive the car at high rpm's for a long duration but that will hurt the engine. I cannot put the stock exhaust back on because I don't have it. Please Help.

Anyone? Please I really need to get this fixed. I just figured if I beat the hell out of the car it will generate enough heat in the exhaust...

Is it your OBD2 system that's giving you the problem?

I've heard of a few 1996 DSM's having problems with the smog component of the computer (mine included). We have to go to the dealer to get it reset, then they have to smog it right afterwards (without turning the car off).

A 3" exhaust should not be the cause of that problem.
