Hello, Folks. I'm a new poster, but I've been reading these forums for a long time, and have gathered a lot of useful information. Now onto the question...

My clutch recently burned out (ACT 2600), so I decided to get the clutch replaced, along with have the engine rebuilt with Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons in order to support the horsepower I plan on achieving.

However, while it was parked outside at the shop while they had the engine inside working on it, someone broke into it and stole my S-AFC, gauge pillar with all three gauges (35 psi boost, EGT, A/F, all Autometer Light series), and my Passport Escort 8500 Radar detector. Now, as I am still making payments on the car, I have full coverage insurance which will cover everything but the Radar detector. I am wondering if I should just get the DSMLink and pass on the S-AFC, or just get the S-AFC, or both? Which would be better? I have limited funds, but want to tune my car to it's potential. I'm thinking of just getting the DSMLink, but would like other members' input. Also, as a bonus, if you'd like to chime in on whether or not I should sue the company that worked on my car for liability of the items stolen, please do. I didn't sign any papers, they don't have a fence up around their yard, basically, they didn't do anything to prevent it from being broken into in a "bad neighborhood". What do you think? Thank you in advance for your input.

My current mods are in my profile. I probably forgot a few since the list is at work. I plan to upgrade my S16G to a larger dual BB turbo soon, and will get cams, and manifolds. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you very much! If you have any questions about my mods or the break in circumstances, please ask and I will answer. With the turbo I have, I plan to run around 16-18PSI street use, 21-24 PSI when I'm racing. When I get my upgraded turbo, I hope to hit more than 26 or 28 PSI. I think 30 PSI on a large turbo is what I will shoot for. Once again, thanks for the input.

Go with dsmlink, without a doubt. It sounds like you are making a nice setup, and the link would compliment it very well. Otherwise, you would need the safc (300), and a logger (say pocketlogger 200). The link is a little more, 650 for software, 150 for eeprom ecu, and then a laptop if you don't have one already. But the potential of the link is amazing. 2g knock count would be very valuable to see. Also I don't see any injectors in your current mod list. You'll need some big ones to run a big turbo at that psi. At least 660's, maybe 720's.

As far as the shop. Before I would sue, I would calmly talk to them and try to get them to cover everything. Go to them with print outs from the web of actual prices for everything (don't just write it down on a pice of paper). Or if you have receipts that would be even better. Maybe if they don't pay 100%, maybe try for 75%. If they still refuse, then you might have to look into other action. I don't know if you are liable or not.

Thanks for the reply. How easy is it to tune the car with DSMLink? I know with the S-AFC, I could be sitting at a stop light and adjust some settings if I needed to. I know I am going to get the DSMLink eventually, but is the S-AFC necessary also, or will only the DSMLink work?

I have Denso 660 injectors. :thumb:

DSMLink is like a standalone that is easy to work with. So much power at your fingertips, it's amazing. You do have to get an interface with it (Palm or Notebook running Windoze) as well as a 95 EPROM ECU. If you can swing that, do it... It's probably one of the best mods you can do for a DSM...

Yeah, I've viewed screenshots for it and stuff and it doesn't look TOO bad, though a little complicated. Nothing I can't learn with some experience.

I will obtain a crappy Laptop to tune it with. Also, I have a socketed '95 ECU, with a stage III from DSMChips, which is a good EPROM. Though, I had the injectors set for Denso 660's and I have (had) to set my car to +12% fuel correction on the SAFC. I live in Colorado Springs, CO though, so the altitude may have had something to do with it.

Anybody have any input on the stolen items while at the repair shop? I've contacted a friend's attorney already to get some advice, but haven't gotten a call back. So thanks to the little break in, my insurance deductable is $500, and the radar detector is $300, so I'm out $800 already. Why do people have to do crap like that? Not to mention, they just cut the wires straight from the back of the S-AFC and the detector, so they won't be able to use them anyway. Freaking morons. Sorry, venting a bit. Thank you both for your input on the DSMLink. :thumb: I'll use the ~$300 insurance money for the S-AFC and put that towards a DSMLink.

DSMlink hands down. Access to the DSMlink forums is worth the price for me :D And Tom and Dave reply several times a day to questions, and ideas for upgrades, etc. Its the only thing on my car that I dont ever plan to change... In my humble opinion, at the very least, a chip with injector compensation is mandatory with AFC/logger type setups (mainly for pump gas HP). But of course, if you have an EPROM ecu, there is no reason not to go with DSMlink...

Personally in your spot I'd definitely go with DSMLink.

As for sueing the shop, be VERY very careful. These are the same people you are having build your engine, ticking them off is a really bad idea. Talk it over with them and see how it goes. You also said it was covered by your insurance so.....I think I'd prolly let it slide if I were you.
