well i have been experiencing a phantom knock problem for awhile now. im wondering if a eprom chip with the pk elimination would help? i know it just eliminates pk unless you are under boost but i think i still suffer from pk even when i am in boost/part throttle. i will be installing a wide band this sunday to see if the knock im getting is real or not but im just trying to get another option to eliminate the pk if it still exists after getting a good tune on the car.

thanks tuners
david

The PK code does help to a certian extent yes. Keydiver can actually extent it alittle further into boost in case you've got a really bad case. It doesn't eliminate PK it ignores knock under said rpm and when out of boost.

thanks for the help. i know it doesnt do anything but ignore knock under no boost situations but im wondering how well it worked for other elimination pk......

Like i said he can extend it so that it just ignores knock all together or anythign in between. But your best bet would be to find the cause of your PK instead of just covering it up.

Well i know the knock im getting isnt real. if i was actually getting 35-43 counts of actual knock i would have kissed my motor good bye a long time ago. im currently only running 14psi on my 20g. i have a few noises comming from the motor but im not completly sure if these noises are loud enough to cause pk. i have bad ball joints, bad cv-axles, and a loud ass o2 dump that kinda faces towards the motor. have any of you guys experienced pk because of these reasons? i have changed the knock sensor out and i will be rerouting my o2 dump, checking base timing, and installing a wide band to see if its knocking from a bad tune.

thanks for the help

Ok well do those other things first before you get the PK code. If you can fix the real issue that's aways the best way to go. Now are you knocking like this while boosting? I ask because you mentioned how much boost your running.

If you do just jump to the code what happens if someday down the road it does happen to really be knocking down low under boost? You'd never know.

Besides if you buy a chip from Jeff he will reburn a new one for you with almost any changes you want for 25 bux. So if you don't get it now and can't find the fix for your PK it won't be a huge deal to have to go back and get it added.

On a side note. I'd recommend you get the extended fuel and timing maps. If your planning on really using that turbo on pump they will help you out. Jeff can give a much better explaination than i could give so if you have questions i'd point you to him.

first off thanks for your help, but back to business.

i did ALOT of reading on the board today and i find that im not the only dsm suffering from this problem. hell from what i read alot of people give up on dsm's all together because of pk. some people try stupid things like sea foam (which im also going to try tomorrow) and it works while others suffer years with it.

i really do think i got pk. now it might not all be pk but im pretty positive alot of it is. i did some 50% throttle hits today in 3rd gear. first little spurt i got like 30 counts of knock. second spurt i got 0 knock. 3rd spurt it pegged at 43 counts. if it was real knock it would be holding steady give or take a few counts for road conditions and such. i dunno maybe its just me thinking thats the way its supposed to be. what do you guys thing?

thanks

I had the same problem. I had a keydiver chip without the pk code, and it always pk'd. My problem was......the keydiver chip itself. I had jeff send me a new one with the pk code installed it and was fixed. But when I switched to the stock chip, it never pk'd.

I enjoyed my car a lot more with the pk code installed. One season of chips and afc's was enough for me. But for now, you can get by with a keydiver chip if you have to.

im just getting rid of all this knock. i have owned two white on black 91 awd's and they both have had this problem. im wanting to really get my hands on tuning and unleashing the power and i cant becuase BOTH of my cars are pk'ing. its getting really annoying because i dont cut corners.

i think im going to leave the pk code to the last resort but i dont really think its going to work because i still pk even while im in boost....

trust me, you'll enjoy your car a lot more if you just get the chip. You'll drive yourself nuts trying to find out why it pk's.

I used to pk bad rolling out of 1st gear, had to let off the throttle, then floor it, PITA. The chip solved everything, and when tuning wasn't dead on, it knocked like it was supposed to..........under boost when it matters.

good luck.
