Factory Mitsu T-stat! My car warms up in short order and blows out the heat like no ones business. I did have one talon that had the blower wired backwards that didn't blow out much air, but a little solder and all was well. Don't start the car with the heater on Defrost high when it's really cold- you can crack the glass (the day I was selling my last one!).

As far as starting, a block heater works the best. I posted on about the install a few weeks ago and you should be able to find it. Like others said, it is easier to install a lower hose heater. A oil pan heater would be good too, get that oil moving quickly!

When you have lots of snow on the car, it melts and ices up in the front of the doorjambs. Be careful opening your doors or you can get a case of the bends :notgood:

These are awesome winter cars (throw on the blizzaks and always the first off out of the intersection)

Oh yeah, autostarter dude. Start it up while you are drinking your coffee!

I dont know about the restof you but it always seems like on the coldest morning here in WV just driving to work the operating temp of my car would drop to the COLD on the road at 55mph.

factory mitsu thermo-stat? am i just stupid.. but.. i think i have one dont i? ROFL

about the second post
it happens to me too, i let the car idle and warm up a bit, but then goin on the freeway it drops quite a bit.

thanks for the reply.

edit:
woah! i just saw live in Alaska.. u should know what ## talkin abouth then, man!
do you have a link to the warmer install?

thanks again!

Bow down to AKDSMER. He should know everything about dsm's in the winter. Fairbanks Alaska, i have a friend that has family that lives on the Kani peninsula and i went up there with him, and they were telling me how in fairbanks the tires will freeze to the ground and sometimes you cant get out without chopping the ice away from the tires. When i was up there, i thought to myself that and AWD dsm would be the ultimate sports car. Good to see there are a few up there.

I guess I meant that make sure someone didn't stick an aftermarket t-stat in it. A lot of these cannot maintain good temperature.

I have not had a problem with the temperature drop. At -20 below, I autostart the car, let it run for 18 minutes (till it shuts off) and then get in and drive off. The temperature stays warm, stable and blows the hot air. At -40 degrees, the temperature doesn't get quite as warm, but still comes up and blows pretty hot air. At -50 below, face it, what the hell are you doing on the road ROFL . ...By far the best 4 banger heating system outside of an old Volvo 240 series!

You could install a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to reduce the amount of airflow across the radiator. This will help, but the t-stat is what keeps the coolant in the engine until it is fully heated up. If you have seen the difference between the factory and an aftermarket t-stat, you would also keep the factory unit! Keep in mind t-stats are wax pellet style actuators, and thus they can and do start to work poorly. I believe all my cars have had new t-stats installed prior to being used (as maintenance) without fail.

Temperature today 40 degrees. Had to turn the temperature down after windshield got dried off.
