Hey Everybody,

Been on the site for awhile now but mostly just been lurking and searching away. I have ran into a problem though and can't seem to find anything on here or other DSM sites that are similar, and trust me i've been searching for HOURS now.

I recently installed a flip-out deck in my 90 Talon TSI. It had the stock deck in there and everything worked fine, or so I think. Since the install of my new deck though I only have dash speakers producing sound. The wiring for the deck was pretty butchered but I got some connectors from somewhere (can't remember where) and wired them in so everything was plug and play.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

So I pulled the deck out and re-checked everything again and couldn't find anything back there that was mixxed up. I plugged one of the speakers in though and then went into the fader and notched it =1 to the rears and all of a sudden they kicked on. As long as I don't have my deck set to Center I have power to my rears/doors. That being said I only have sound coming from 5 of the 6 now, which is much better than 2, so I still have to figure that out but doing alot better. :thumb:

I've had better luck by not using a wire harness at all, and just matching the stereo wires with the car's wires without a harness.

This page will tell you what each of the car's wires is:

1st Gen Radio Plug

You'll just need to know what your stereo's wires are. Hopefully you held onto your manual or can dig one up...

Good luck!

So when you increase to the rear they come on? What is that, too much resistance? Bad connection maybe. I think it's unusual that both rear speakers would do that though. I guess the connector itself could be faulty, like jared was saying, maybe skip that. Connectors are always a resistance point, some more than others. (but so are twisted together wires)

Maybe the speakers aren't the right ohm rating (high resistance, like 8 ohm speakers, on a 4 ohm deck). Especially it's hard on a tiny amp when you have 2 sets of speakers hooked up (Front and rear)

To be honest, the amps inside of a deck are very small (they have to be) and low quality. If the deck has outputs, you could get a better more powerful sound from an external amp. But yeah, that costs extra.

I agree with Nasty Dream on this, but you may be better off hard wiring your stereo system (running all new speaker wires) or if you have three sets of rca's on the back of your headunit (a little more money to do) running all your speakers an amps. Most aftermarket headunits are set for 4ohm or 8ohm speakers so check the ohm rating on your speakers first. I haven't had any issues with wire harness installs and prefer them over hacking factory harnesses. Hardwiring your system is probably your best option time consuming but at least you know you have good wires running between head unit and speakers. Fatory wiring for stereos get brittle and deteriorate over time so in older vehicles I find it best to run my own wires including new power, ground, and accessory wires for head unit.
