My girl likes the fact that i have a hobby. I feel its good for any relationship.

I have: School, My Girl, Hockey and DSM

When school gets tuff, i have hockey to relieve stress.
When its girl issues, i have my car to keep me busy while i think.
When the DSM is down...well i should be doing school work anyway.
When im not playing hockey, gotta spend time with the woman at some point.

My girl also loves my car, she says the turbo noise is sexy...


I love my life...now if i only had the money to buy another 1g....hmmmm

my girl constantly points out that i love my DSM more than her. (its not true) but i always respond the same way. "I just love a nice body. Plus, my car lets me ride it whenever i want!" ;D hahahaha

She loves cars and loves that i work on them. But she gets a little pissed when im at the shop till 11 or 12 at night sometimes. But when she sees the end result she gets happy and knows its worth it. Get her to help you do stuff with the car, that way she cant get mad.

Agreed. It's always good to balance things out in life. It works best that way.
If you get with a girl and tell her how things are from the get go and then she leaves cause of your hobby then she never really liked you as she was supposed to.
A real girl loves you for you.
I'm always almost broke and my hobby is very expensive but yet my gf still loves me and i still get mine.

My situation is a little particular. I'm at school about 300 miles away from home and I don't get ther every often. So I bought another DD because the talon was giving me problems so I leave the talon at my girlfriends' parents' home which is closer to where I go to school. So when we go there to visit her parents on weekends I spend the whole weekend working on my car. She doesn't like the fact that I let her alone but she helps me when it comes to cleaning the car. She accepts it because she says I look happier working on my car than spending time with her parents.

its great when she gets jealous of the dsm, she comes out to the garage wearing just an overcoat, and closes the door behind her!!, i love my dsm

I never get that kind of attention for working on my car though

Mine wouldn't want to spend any time in the garage watching me work on my car or doing anything else. She doesn't own a car yet so I can't teach her anything.

My g/f spent a week helping me scrub down my engine, tranny, and engine bay as I replaced all the gaskets. It made her really happy when I let her polish the 'E' on the valve cover with a dremel.

She complains that I spend too much time working on the car, but shuts up when that same car makes the 250 mile drive to see her at her college.

She drives a Taurus station wagon, so every once in a while, I let her drive my car. The complains usually come to a temporary halt after that too. It goes from complaining about spending too much time on the car to "When are you going to tune this thing?"

nice thread you started austin. you think you hear it? i stay up till 4 or 5 in the morning working on these things as i was rebuilding my engine and yours.......... i hear how i love these cars more than her, and when you come over to help, or we go to get more parts, she says " oh, your boyfriend is here" that bi***. well, we have two kids together. so i guess i'll be hearing it till the day i die. i just hope when i go, i'm sitting in the front seat of my 2ga converted to 2gb with full black leather under my asss

i met my ex because she had a 99 GSX, so sexxxyyyy..

at 1st, she never got jealous of the car, and she helped out alot under the hood. (well, pretended she knew what she was doing and got a lil dirt on her clothes...)


she was only jealous that id have no problem dropping $100 on the DSM, but would question spending $100 on her some shoes or a bag or something...and she hated the 'being broken 50% of the time' thing. Then she started hating how much i was putting into the car, and tried everything she could to get on top of my spending list...i ended up selling the DSM to buy us both 1gs, but she didnt deserve it.. so i bounced.

now im DSMless. i guess she won that battle,

My wife knew that my life revolves around cars, so I don't hear about it all that much. I've even got her involved in fixing them now, she helped change out the timing belt on her Audi with me. And she actually likes going to the track with me, although I haven't been able to get her to take one of them for a pass yet...

A bit off topic, but me and this girl I just met were out last night cruisin around, went for dinner, and just gettin to know one another.. She was asking me if I could take this mustang, askin about my plans for upgrades, and how the engine and parts work together and I promised I would invite her on my next project to show her some of the things I learned. She seems interested but I think she might have been tryin to get laid too . If she sticks around and helps out with my car damn she might be a keeper. Shes hot and smart too dudes, fingers crossed.

My old lady of almost 3 years knows that I've been into cars before we even met....She constantly gets pissed when I stay out at the garage working on it (til 11-12pm) making sure everything is perfect....But when the car breaks or need some work done to it to get it running again....She hounds me by saying "When is the car going to be done, come on I want to go for a drive...."

The highlight of my day is my boy Joe, which is a fellow dsm'er calls me and text me quite a bit, shes always like "Thats your boyfriend texting you ain't it"

Its a love hate relationship between her and the car...she loves when it runs and getting me tools and cleaning the car....But its a POS the moment it breaks, til she tells me to fix it...

well, usually she has off on the weekends, and that is when i do say that we spend all of our time working on our toys, but look what the final outcome is. she spends alot of long nights with me and helping me till the wee hours in the morning.
i guess she'll have to get over it. this is how i make my living, cause you know as well as i do thar finding a 9-5 job here is impossible. i work on cars. i sell cars
when i put out the money for cars in the past, all i hear is bullshhit, but when i sell it and make a good profit off of it, she is all lovie, lovie

yea, the funny part is that i have known my girl since we were toddlers', and i have worked at my dads garage since i was like 7 years old, doing oil changes and tune-ups. we have two children, and when she works, it is hard being able to work on cars and watch two diablos' at the same time
and we have been together for like 7 years and she sometimes don't understand that it will never change. my luck, i'll probablly croak under a car while changing the oil

man tough luck. Yup the GF of 2 years broke up with me because of the car. she said I was spending to much on the car. My GF now of almost 8 months who has known me all of my life and is well aware about my cars totally supports me and the time and money i spend on the car. She does not get up set about the money thing because I split it half and half and I figured out if you take her out a few times a week it keeps her happy and you get to test out the new mods on the car she even will come out to the garage and pull out a chair and talk while i work on them. KEEPER she even helped me pick out my last DSM i bought.
