Does white smoke from tailpipe have anything to do with oil

Long story short I bought this car back in July and I never noticed any white smoke at all during stops or anything. I had synthetic oil put in and then viola, now I start seeing white smoke coming from the tailpipe. It is a constant stream of it. I noticed it in traffic and while it was sitting in my garage.

Fast Forward a month or so and I had the car sitting for a few weeks and once I started driving it again., there was NO smoke. Not in traffic or sitting in my garage.

Now I JUST changed the oil two days ago with the same mobil 1 synthetic and the smoke is back. I just drove the car to a drive thru and the whole time the constant white smoke was coming from the tailpipe.

What could this be? I know people will say coolant, but I never had this problem with the car from the time I bought it until I changed the oil and put in mobil 1 synthetic.

I have the same problem

Switched to synthetic Mobil 1 and now I'm smoking white smoke with a hint of blue out the tailpipe

Mobil 1 synthetic burns whitish.. I'm not sure what causes it but my best guess is:

Your turbo is old, the seals are hard and shriveled. The synthetic oil is thinner and flows quicker, and seeps past the turbo seals and burns up in the exhaust housing.

I have the same problem yet I'm 99% sure my valve seals are good and I know my compression is fine.

New turbo is on the way.. smoke has gotten worse the more I've driven with the synthetic

Everyone should start checking their turbos for shaft play to rule out a failing turbo seal or bearing. I notice these types of "smoking gray/white smoke" threads always pop up once the weather starts getting colder. Remember to warm up your cars as thoroughly as possible before driving them. And check turbo shaft play regularly.

Just wanted to update

Probably going to be switching back to a non-synthetic oil

Valve seals are fine, rings are fine, turbo was just replace, and I still get some smoke after warmup while idling. Not terrible at all, but it's there.

With regular oil I had no smoking problems

Similiar problems here. I'm pretty confident my turbo is good because when i swapped it to this new motor it was. I'll be checking mine again tonight. However, I'm curious as to how you conduct a leak down test, and/or create the tester. I know how to do a compression test. When i put the motor in it had low compression on the #4 cylinder. I was told to put some oil in it and see if that helps/adds compression. It added 40 psi of compression and after the motor started the compression of that cylinder has never gone down. I was told that it was because the rings had probably dried up and the oil helped loosen them back up.

So, over all, how do I build a leak down tester? I can't seem to find it on the forums 'cause when i search I just hear suggestions about it and everything else is about boost leak testers. Also, when I searched leak down tester on google i got something that looked very similiar to the compression tester.

Thanks.

My friend has a built 6 bolt and a new fp3065 and he also will burn 10w-30 mobil 1 after long periods of hot idling.

Solution: 15w-50 Mobil 1 Synthetic, or 10w-30 Conventional
