That is the stock disc that came out of the clutch of the GST I bought a couple months ago. Does that look like something that would have been done over time or just a one time thing? The car was slipping when I bought it. It looks totally shredded on the non-flywheel side.

Also are the factory clutches in GST's usually made in Korea??? :tease:

the pics are kinda blurry its hard to tell what you are talking about... could you put it in paint and circle it or something then maybe i could help :)

Yeah that just looks like normal clutch wear over a long period of time. If it was a one time thing it would be burn and the rivits and stuff would be smoothed out too.

well with the clutch its hard to tell whats normal and whats not normal cause it all depends on the normal driving of the car. if your racing all the time and just run the car rough then yeah the clutch is going to break down more rapidly. however if that clutch was a stock clutch with some milage on it then yeah it looked normal. obviously you've replaced it and all just do the recommended breaking in period and you should be good, and as for where the parts are made nothing is made where its built anymore i would not worry about it at all

My horror story...
so at 98k I finally decided to drive a few miles to town on the f'ed up clutch thinking I could go a bit. When I got to town and then headed back the poor pos couldnt take the heat. I really beat the breaks off of this thing to the point of the pressure plate was burned pretty bad and the flywheel took some of it too. Keep in mind this was the stock clutch on a semi-beaten GSX. So after I ruined it to the point of putting it in gear and revving it to make it go nowhere, I had to replace it. I found a stock Exedy Clutch pack for $120 so it was all good. I did the labor at a shop I work at so that was free and the ACT flywheel I got was about $300.

anyway there could have been a flaw in the pressure plate or low fluid or a bad clutch master or slave cylinder. Whatever the case either it was ragged on hard or the system had an issue that was never looked at or repaired. Be careful when getting a new pressure plate with a heavy rating. I hear bad things about people who bend the clutch fork due to its strength compared to the newer stronger pressure plate. I think the flywheel is a good thing to get if you can spot the money at the time (mine was broke anyway). The ACT is about 17lbs if I can remember and OEM is about 20-21lbs. Those 9 pounders are scary though seeing is that the flywheel is somewhat a balance for the crank assembly to keep it turning. Good for always racing but dont think it would be good to street around on

Okay I figured as much. I replaced the whole thing with an ACT2600 Clutch and an XACT Flywheel, I also replaced the slave cylinder with a 3000GT VR4 one and replaced the push rod on it with one that's 1/4" longer, added BG Syncroshift fluid, it's very VERY smooth and VERY nice. What is the typical way to break in the clutch? I've been driving it normally and haven't had any probs.

300ish miles I believe? Alot of people say take it easy no launches, and then I hear alot of people saying to beat on it, then let it cool down, rinse and repeat. I'd just take it easy for the first 300 miles.

I know a person who had beat it into the ground on the first few hundred and you could smell that rotten burn smell. He said 'Its on warranty, whatever'...I guess if it is then whatever but I would rather have my car out on the street more then in the shop. 300 is a good mileage though. I personally went through 1000 just putting around. Didnt take long
