Does anybody have a greddy profec bspec boost controller? i need help

The profec b allows for 2 boost settings...Hi and Low.

For example if you wanna run 15lbs daily you can set your low there. And you could set your "Hi" to run say 21lbs at the track.

Personally, I'd sell it and buy yourself a nice MBC. I had a profec B and it caused me nothing but headaches.

Here's a nice writeup. The "search" button is your friend :D

I need some help using it like what do the lil dots mean for low and hi boost? like how much boost does each dot represent?

this is the one i have: http://www.greddy.com/img/PHP/products/pdf/687.pdf

I feel your pain as I have the Profec B as well. Low and hi are 2 different boost settings. I have low set to 0 for everything so it's at stock boost for best gas mileage when driving around town and hi for my "performance" settings when I want to go fast. Hope that helps

The profeb is the best, most easy to understand Electronic out there. I have the profec-b 2, but many people prefer the 1 for its ease of use.

High and low is simply that, 2 settings. I just have mine set for 25psi for high and like 13 for low. I think you can also set th egain on it, which is how fast it opens the valve. If you are spiking, and then dropping back to correct boost, set the gain a little higher so it opens the valve quicker. Too much gain and it will open too soon and slow spool.

You have a great controller, dont let anyone knock it.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

**correction... gain is called balance on yours, sharp opens the valve quicker, but might cause spikes. The other way will open it sooner, but might slow spool.
just start on the "not sharp" side and move it towards the middle until you get spike, then move it back a hair..

The original profec b is the shit.

BTW you're not gonna usually get more then 15psi on the low boost setting, FWIW!

As to your question about how much the dots are... think of it this way.

The valve is probably ablt to handle about 30psi... the dial is setup to be 0-100% the capacity of the valve. Sooo... in theory, halfway up the dial should be 50% of the valve (or about 15psi), 3/4 of the dial should be 75% of the valves capacity (or about 22.5 psi.)

These are just a guess, as i am unsure of the exact capacity of the valve. But if we assume its 30 psi, and there are 12 dots, we will assume that each dot is about 2.5 psi.

Make sense?

The valve can take more than 30 psi. Dont think in psi think percent. You can only run about 1.5 times the spring pressure of the wastegate. This also depends on how you have it hooked up and wht type of wastegate. If it is inline to a internal or the bottom port of external than that rule works well. When the valve is open or zero dots then you are running straight source from the charge to the gate. Whis will give you spring pressure boost. At 12 dots it is closed all the way. So you will be running the max amount of boost your gate will allow you to run. Everythin else is inbetween. so each dot is a little more than 8%. Get it? I know my valve is pressure tested to 100psi. So it is not the valve that is hurting your setup mozt likely the gate.

how do i know if i have spikes? my balance is slightly past the middle and my low is on 4 dots and so is my hi so how much boost will i add if i turn my low on? this is how my car was tuned i never messed with it ever since i bought it from the previous owner. i mean the green turbo can handle like 25psi right?

You know if you have spikes by lookng at your bost gauge...;) If your low is on 4 dots and your high is on 4 dots then they are set the same. So your boost should not change between the two. I wouldnt worry about what the turbo can handel. Worry about what your fuel system and your tuning can handel. Just turn the knobs and see where it goes it is impossible for us to tell you how much boost a certian setting will run.

Just look at your boost gauge, im pretty sure it does spike.

so say if the boost gauge goes up and back down a bit thats spiking right? cause when i turn my low setting on the boost gauge bar will not stay at a correct mark it will sometimes stay and then go up and then back down....so should i adjust the balance on the boost controller?

You ultimately want your boost to climb as fast as possible, then stick on the numer you want and not fluctuate much.

This is accomplished by taking "sharpness" out of the controller to the point where it no longer spikes, but not so much that it hurts spool-up time.

so i should probably keep the balance in the middle so that i dont spike right? also turn the low side down one dot?

I think you should adjust the balance until it works best on your car.

The low side can be set on whatever you want, I was just stating where mine was. We have totally different cars, and I never use the low side, as my car is a weekend driver that is at 25psi all the time.

The important part is for you to learn how your controller works, and how to set it up for your car. No one can tell you the exact settings to use, because its a little different for every car.

Just go out and play with it until it works best. If nothing else, its a good excuse to do a bunch of full-boost pulls...:sneaky:

i just did loops on the highway till i had everything correct. didn't take long and it solved 100% of my spike issues i had with the MBC. I love it, very easy and quick to setup the basics. the highway was just to fine tune some stuff.
