I just put some Brembo cross drilled and slotted rotors on my 2g awd. I also put new semi metalic pads on the car. I think that I am getting some noise from them, either the slots are rubbing the pads and making the noise or it is something else altogether. Just wandered if anyone else with these type rotors gets noise from them.

Thanks,
Ben :thumb:

Yeah, alot, but only at first. Give it a couple weeks you wont even hear them any more and they will be alot smoother.

That is a relief. Is it possible for you to describe the noise that your made. I am having a hard time thinking of the right description.

Thanks,
Ben

Allow your rotors and pads some break-in time. What kinds of noises are you hearing? Did you put in moly-lube behind the brake pads, when you installed the pads and rotors?

Moly-lube, no I didnt put anything behind the pads. I was not aware that I was suposed to. I did put some anti-seaze in the guides of the calipers. I know i should have used some grease but I didnt have any and I was to lazy to go out and get some.

The sound that I am hearing is kind of like a clunk clunk clunk that slows down when the car slows down and vice versa. Thats the best I can describe it, it isnt loud just loud enough to annoy me and to have to point out to anyone else in order for them to notice it.

I have the same setup on my 99 GSX, cept I have ceramic pads, and yeah they made noise for a bit, but it gets less and less as you break in the rotors and pads.

Well that is good to know. I was just waiting for something to fall off the car going down the road. I guess I am just paraniod even though I checked everything bout 3 times to make sure it was tight, LOL.

What the hell could be clunking? My brakes wern't clunking, but more like a metal surface sliding on metal, and that went away after a couple weeks.

Did You also replace the rotors in the back, the slight clunk might mean that your rear rotors are warped

And possibly if thats not the case, you might be having bearing problems in the hubs. Any midas shop or some place similar should be able to tell you what's wrong no charge.

As I stated before I dont really know how to describe it but I know what bad breaks, hubs, or warped rotors would sould like. I guess you could say if you were spinning a slotted rotor on a lathe slowly and put a card or something up to it the sound that the slots hitting the card would make should be similar to what I am hearing.

Again I suck and explaing the way something sounds especially when I have to type it, LOL.

well, lets try to describe the sounds.

a light metal on metal rubbing is what i get when braking it would be like a smooth "swooooosh", or a calm sea at night (pads against rotors)

when the squeal plate is exposed due to pad wear would be like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeKKKKKK" (worn pads)

a warped rotor could be described as "shi .. shi .. shi .. shi"

WOW, i got it on my first try! I can describe a sounds with words! And look, I have a college education! OMG

you should at least give a description a try, as right now it could be lifter tick for all i know. You will get a much more accurate response, or others experience with simmilar problems.

Thanks for the advice and the mild mocking ( i dont mind). I would say that the sound is similar to a warped rotor only instead of the shi shi shi, the sound is more pronounced and shorter uh .... uh ..... uh ......... uh

I suck at this

Oh ya forgot to say that I am also have had some schooollen and they didnt have no class bout sound effects at my school

Don't use antiseize because under extreme heat it gets sticky and gummy, Use a specific synthetic caliper grease made for that purpose. Cross drilled rotors do make noise, most come with paperwork in the box that describe the noise and tells you it is normal. Other noises could be caused by putting the caliper bolts in the wrong position. There is an upper and a lower. On the end of each bolt is a letter that matches a letter on the back of the caliper mounting bracket. Reversing them causes knocking in the brakes when applied. Hope this helps.
