Do you think Spyders can be fast?

1st off, i'm new here... I don't have a DSM, i have a 3000gt, but alot of my friends have DSMs and im a big fan of the car.

2nd, one of my friends owns a Spyder GS, and is constantly giving up hope on it. he calls it slow, and i think the car has pretty good pickup, and might be able to pull a 15.9 (its stock). but recently he wants to sell it and buy an eclipse spyder GT... god no, I think his car kicks ass and he could make it fast if he wants. he just throws at me that its "the heaviest" and yada yada yada. i think he's just lazy. the eclipse pyder gt isn't even that fast, boasting a 15.7 stock...

anyone here own a fast spyder? i know the gs-t spyders must be reasonably quick

I have no idea of what the 4G64 powerplant is capable of. I do know they are not typically aftermarket supported, outisde of your intake and exhaust. I"m not sure but I think there was a company developing a supercharger bolt on kit for it. You might wanna search the board for it. :thumb: :dsm: :talon: :laser:

The 4G64 is a very capable engine. You have a few different options on that. You can turbo, build an N/A or anything like that. Have your friend come on the forum and see what the it say about the 4G64.

If it weren't for the turbos, they'd be respectably quick.

As they are, they're not anywhere near bad. It's mostly a matter of so much of the newer stuff being godawful fast.

But convertible driving isn't about driving fast, anyway. They're about cruises on warm nights in the starlight with a nice broad doing the ballast work on the passenger side.

So very true.

IF I get my head/turbo swap done....I'll be somewhat fast and still look good with the top down and a broad in the pass. seat.

Yeah, that would be a great set-up with that. A turbo head swap would be great. You would be able to cruise and have some speed also.

Yeah, got the head off the doner car....need to redo all the valves and have the head ported and polished....should be out $150 (I work at a Honda/Mitsubishi dealership!)
