Do Not Buy Ebay Manifolds

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Good hoefully people start busting the guys with this kinda manifolds balls cause I been hearing it about my xspower tubular from day one ROFL I can say I have never had mine crack like that LOL

Some ebay manifolds have stainless flanges and some have mild flanges. There is a slight price difference when buying them from overseas, so the ebay seller makes the decision, typically for the mild steel flanges because those make more profit for them. They all look the same, so it's impossible to tell. It's just a gamble. Then again, running an important ebay part is always a gamble with terrible odds.

With the setups above, I would brace the hell outta that. That's alot to ask from a cheap manifold with all that weight hanging on it with leverage like that.

Best of luck.

I bought an sfp manifold a few years back....It cost me 550 I belive. Mine cracked in the same place. I called sfp and they claimed that they never had any failures. The welds on the manifold was very poor. It looked like it was half mig and half tig welded. Some welds were great and other welds next to it looked very sloppy. The mild steel they use isnt so great either. I hope you guys didnt pay as much as i did. The warranty does not make up for a poorly made header considering the downtime, labor, and shipping costs. It will be cheaper to get it rewelded locally.

I am a big ebay guy
I dont understand why everyone thinks they can get away with buying cheap parts. I really dont know why people continue to take the risk. If some of you(not just you) would just wait a little bit longer you could take that ebay money and sleep well at night with the peace of mind that your cars not going to fall apart in the morning. So what if you have to wait an extra paycheck? At least you wont miss work or school cus your shit BROKE. I think it contributes to some of DSM's bad reputation for breaking down. Thats just like, if you do a meticulous maintenance schedule like EVERY high performance car should....you wont have problems.

I know this doesn't apply to everynne but I know most of you feel the same way. I've been tryin to convince my friend that ebay is not the way to go for most parts. Yet no matter how much proof i show him....he doesnt' get it.

Thats my rant for the afternoon. Just my molded copper certified through the united states mint.

Yes that is a good word for it a rant cause it was not in the least bit informative or true. I don't know why "PEOPLE"(not just you) afflilate ebay with bad quality parts. If I show you 20 blown magnus smims are you gonna go preach against Magnus. If I show you 30 blown shep trans's will you say shep is bad. I think we know the answer is know so why do you go and because a guy puts up a picture of something broken that he got on ebay you assume all ebay stuff is bad:rolleyes: . I have a authentic prothane motor mount kit I got off ebay.... must be junk. I have 2.5 inch rolled lip shorte route intercooler piping off ebay.....must be junk. chromoly flywheel, datalogger, dsmlink ect ect ect the list goes on but I mean hey ebay stuff is cheap. Ebay is just a place for people to sell stuff faser and cheaper and easier period don't blame ebay for some companies lack of R&D and sure as hell don't make a comment like ebay is to blame for DSM's lack of reliablity image pleaseeeeeeee:rolleyes: :shhh:

Your right while I disagree with the "all ebay stuff sucks" theory his is kinda out there.....almost as dumb as puting a platic bag around your air filter and exaust wrap on your intake to make more power ;)

Aftermarket.

I have worked for an OEM for 14 years, and had long conversations with professional engine builders.

In general aftermarket parts (not just ebay) are generally lower quality than OEM. (Of course this is a blanket statement). You ask why? OEMs design/manufacture parts to build 300,000 cars per year, and warranty them for 3 or more years. With 5000-8000 components on a car and people making them at 60 per hour... stuff has to be almost bullet proof to come off the end of the line and work. Think about it 6000 parts x 300,000 cars = 1,800,000,000 parts per year. If each part has 3 ways to screw it up (simplistic thinking) and your process is 99.999% perfect (.001% error) statistically you have 5 million errors. The reason people have problems with DSM or any other hot rod is:

1. hand built /modified.
2. little or no installation training.
3. little or no understanding of components multiple functions.
4. little to no durability testing on component or installation procedures.

In example, you will not find aftermarket wheels or tires held to the run-out and balance spec of an OEM. OEMs have to pay warranty if you come back (they don't like to do this). Aftermarket's main priority is "bling." If you don't buy it... they don't make money. Do they care if it lasts 70,000 miles?

I am confident many people will disagree with this comment. If you have never poured over a component detail print, tracing a 0.5mm tolerance back to it's datum... don't bother replying to this note.

With that said, I have many aftermarket parts on my car, including new & used parts from ebay. I have had more problems with alternators & waterpumps than ebay stuff.

What I will say about ebay is... window shoppers are easily ignored.

A truely remarkable "aftermarket" product I have experienced is DSMLink.
