I just recently made a cold air intake box to seal off my open k&n filter from the rest of the engine bay. The materials i used were 1 12"x24" piece of sheet metal 5' of water pipe insulation(tube type with adheasive) and a 4' section of 3" flexable dryer vent hose. I chose to use the aluminum hose because i thought it would be stronger for high speeds. I got all these at home depot for $25. I ran the hose from under the car up the back of the maf and tucked it into the airbox so it would only blow the cold air into the box. The only thing i would recommend is to use something a little thinner than sheet metal as it was kinda difficult to bend and contour. I used a piece of cardboard to make a rought template for the cutting and bending of the sheet metal but i ended up trimming and tweaking it even more once i got it in the car. I was having heatsoak issues before with just the open k&n filter sucking in all the hot engine air and after the cold air intake i can make 3-4 more 3rd gear pulls than i could before it. I was heatsoaking my mkiv i/c after about 3 3rd grear pulls now i can make 5-6 without a problem. I wasn't expecting much but i am very happy with the results. Also the car pulls like it does when eveything is cold when you first take a rip in it but it stays like that all the time now with the airbox and vent. I have logged my intake temps before and after (last pic). I have also logged a few 3rd grear pulls before and after and before the airbox i was seeing intake temps rising to almost 100* on a 60* day on a 3rd grear pull where as after the airbox my intake temps were only 5-8* over ambient and actually dropped once i started the pull. The red marks in the pics are where the vent hose come up into the box.
