So I recently bought this 96 eagle talon which is in good condition for its year. A little while ago i decided to turn the car on just to check up on it since its not even registered yet. The engine hesitated turning on and my check engine light went on. My friend came over to use the device that checks the reason the light is on. It read "cylinder 1 Misfire". RPM's go up slower than it should. help?

Check spark on that cylinder as stated and also check to make sure the number 1 injector is getting power at the plug to make sure it's getting fuel, also run a compression test on that cylinder, after you do all of that you should be able to narrow it down to wheather its a spark, fuel, or compression related problem, hope that helps, let us know what you find out

Agree with crash do a compression test first and see. Same thing happened to me and the compression test narrowed it down.

swap your #1 and #2 plugs. If the misfire goes to cyl 2 then you will need plugs. If it stays at 1 then its not your plugs. Stick a screwdriver in your spark plug wire and lay it next to a ground, crank the engine. If you see spark coil pack is good. if you dont have a noid checker then also swap cyl 1 injector to another one and see if the misfire follows

Check your spark plugs, then wires, then coil pack. Make sure it's not shorting some where. Then as stated above check resistance. I'd personally change your plugs and wires if you don't know the last time it was done anyways, just as maintainance. Good luck hope these posts help you out.

I had this happen to me. Turned out to he a bad injector. Decided not to fire one day when I went out to it. While it was running I just pulled a spark plug wire off at a time. That showed me what cylinder was not firing by which one didnt change how it was running when i unplugged it. It also showed me while the vehicle was running that I was jumping spark between the wire and spark plug. So I knew it was getting spark. Then I took a long screw driver and listened to all the injectors that I knew where firing and then lute bed to the misfiring cylinder.. nothing. Swapped it out and was back on the road. I did check the injector connector for a pulse with a test light first.
