Howdy guys!
Well to start off this post; I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T.
Stock everything almost.
Have babied this car and take very good care of it.
I have fixed all the problems it has ever had and been successful.

So about a week ago I was driving around with my buddy and we had been driving for about an hour, car was running great like it had been for a long time; so after hangin out for a while we got back to my car. I hop in, turn the car on and to my surprise its idle was super rough and the CEL was on. Car was still running but just put out barely ANY power. I took it to Autozone and they plugged in the computer and said #1 Cylinder Misfire. :ohdamn:

Now here is where it gets funky!

So the next day i get into my car to check it out again. I start it up and to my surprise it is running just fine again. The check engine light is still on but the idle is normal from 900-1000 so it's nice and smooth. I decide to take it out and go for a drive to warm it up and see what exactly i can discover about this ridiculous problem and what i find out is that i was driving for about 30 minutes without turning off my car and so i get back to my place, turn off my car and let it sit for another 30 minutes. I come back outside, turn it on, and BAM there it is again.. after the car has heated up, turned off, and been sitting the injector/injector wire/or SOMETHING is malfunctioning. It is VERY frustrating because I have to drive 30+ miles to work and with my car out of commission I have to drive a gas hog truck so I am really asking for help from you guys to help me figure out what is going on with my car, i really do miss driving it; so much appreciated y'all! I hope we can figure this out!

By the way, I just replaced my spark plugs a few weeks prior to this BS happening to my car. I have a feeling it is my injector but I am thankful to have these forums with a bunch of smart people that can help me out! :thumb:

If there is any info that I am missing please let me know and I will answer it to my greatest ability. I hope we can fix itt!:hellyeah:

it could be an injector but it could also be other things like a valve hanging up and not seating all the way or i have seen lifters keeping a valve open . what you should do is when you have the problem do a compression check of that cylinder to eliminate a mechanical problem .

First try driving it. When it starts to cut out, cut the key off then back on (clutch in) and when you let clutch out car should fire back up. See if prob temp goes away. If so then its your ecu cutting fuel to cyl 1. It may be a bad injector clip. Part number 28419a line code BWD at oreilly auto parts. Get it soldered in, dont crimp it

The only time it ever cuts out is after it has been running for a while to where the engine is hot, then i have to turn the car off, let it sit for an hour because it i just turn it right off then back on it still works just fine, i have to let it sit for an hour or so then start it back up and its misfiring then. I really do think it is a clip because when it is running good and i unplug #1 clip it does exactly what it does when it misfires and when it IS misfiring after been ran and shut off I pull the #1 clip and it does nothing, like there is no current going to the injector. Misfires plugged in, misfires unplugged, but ONLY after it has been heated up. And I am going to perform a compression check today, so I will let you guys know.

If you think it is an injector, what I do to test faulty Injectors (besides checking volts.) Is to use a stetheoscope, while running listen to your good Injectors firing. Then listen to your questionable one. It should be clicking different (back to volts) or not clicking at all.

Good luck man. Let us know!

sounds like your cam angle sensor is starting to go out. It happened to me the exact way your discribing. Once the cas gets hot.. it started misfiring. Just a thought.

It sounds like the car is running fine in open loop. But once it heats up and goes into closed loop it detects misfire. Sounds like a bad sensor somewhere. Or low compression. Our ecu's will cut fuel to the cylinder it believes is experiencing problems.

Completely scratch what i just said. I red your last post about car wrong....

Sooooooooooo, I switched injectors 1 and 2, the misfire from 1 has moved to 2 when switched:)
So I believe I have a bad injector!
Y'all agree?!

I listened to the injector like you said and it isn't firing when switched for sure.
