CV Ale broke in Transmission

Well I have been reading threads on here about broken ball joints causing the axles to snap at the CV Joints. Mine snapped yesterday, I have removed the lower control arm, got the axle out of the hub fine, Now I just can not remove the passenger side spine from the tranny, its in there. Ive read about using the screwdriver and hammer but I do not have the leverage to pull it out. will the pry bar be a better effective method?

Also, which side holds the majority of fluid? My car is a 1997 GS Automatic. I am new to DSMs but not Mitsu. I traded a 2004 eclipse Turbo project for this GS and a built GST

If the axle is cleanly snapped off with no cv joint left you're in for a ride. The only thing I could think of is to drill and tap for the largest bolt you can. Then attach a slide hammer to get the stub out. There is a snap ring on the axle so you can't just pry it out without a place to pry from. Last resort is to take the tranny apart. OUCH!

I may have worded it wrong, that big fat piece the CV slides in is there

Make it 2 pry bars so u can try and evenly pry it out. Otherwise I have used a small chain around them and a slide hammer but that usually ends up with a broken c-clip. Most of the times with my luck the clip ends up falling inside the tranny and you have to take it a part but not always good luck my friend.
