I've seen people post up pictures with their plates blurred out and all so wondering why people are scared for others to be able to see their plates. I mean unless you work at a dmv, can you even get info from a tag?

I mainly ask because I'm taking my ex-wife to court cause she's been denying me visitation of our daughter and tons of other reasons. Stupid ho! Anyway....She's all freaked out that I might find out her tag number and doesn't want anyone getting it. So it makes me wonder what she's scared of (and actually makes me wonder if there's something more I should be investigating). What could I really do with the stupid thing anyway? She's an idiot  Thanks guys!

I have always wondered the same thing. I mean, anyone and everyone that drives around you can see your plate, so what's the big deal? Only a real sicko would take a plate from the internet and search someone out. I don't worry about trivial things like that.

I dont know why either. I dont just because its a vanity plate. It adds to the fun on the street. Besides, I dont think anyone on tuners could do much more with it than some people around here that see it on a daily basis.

the only thing i can think of is like seeing a pic of somebodys plate that looks like yours on internet then you make a fake one with the same number and go rob a bank or something then the cops think its that person since the color, model, year, make and car are same? i think of random stuff like this all the time

Not that I would do it...
But, I have a cousin in IL that is an officer. If I needed to track someone down(for legal reasons only), one phone call and he could get me a new address, just about any information about any other vehicles they own, info on relatives, criminal history etc...

I am sure there are many more things that can be gotten, and many other ways to do it.

But it does link you to to somewhat personal info about a person if you know what strings to pull.

I leave mine in all the pics simply because I don't have anything worth stealing. ROFL

I'm sure your clutch, wheels/tires, and struts look tastey to someone.

Someone willing to either

1. Remove these parts outdoors in Cleveland in December

or

2. Move six cars, two of which don't run, and make my TSi AWD run to get the car out.

Some states use your Social Security Number either with the driver's license record, or as a DL number itself. When you run a license plate, you get the registered owner's name (unless the car's registered in some odd way, such as through a trust), and from there you can try to back-track to the owner's information. Some states help this along by giving either the owner's date of birth, or sometimes their driver's license number on the registration. And some have all the information about the vehicle on the registration (color, model, even trim level). California is one of the ones that doesn't.
Those things on the crime shows where they look up all the green 78 Mavericks? Not here, pal. We don't even show if it's a Maverick, just a Ford. We used to do sedan, convertible, roadster, hatchback, stationwagon, 4-door, 3-door, coupe, limosine, and a few others, and they stopped doing even that a couple of years ago. The are still demarking between cars and trucks, at least. Distinction between vans and SUVs gets iffy. In both cases, we have to look things up through the VIN. Manually.
So yes, some places a license plate can pave the way to identity theft, and some places not.
Oh, California started taking your SSN a few years ago, but so far they've not utilized it. On a State level, we don't have magnetic nor barcode readers for the DL either, although some local municipalities use them. Both have been on the back of the DL for a decade or so.

negative. its been done on American plates. notice he said euro plates. 6 characters 3 top 3 bottom. so you do some searching and find a euro plate post.

I want to a custom license plate for my car but can't think of a good way to arrange the letters so that the everyday driver understands what it means. The word I want is:

UNTOUCHABLE

And the best thing I can come up with is:

UNTCHBL

Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any better ideas.:thumb:

Doesn't look close enough, however I don't have any better ideas for you, sorry.

A word like that is gonna be pretty hard to make readable on a plate.

Although you could make "Cant Touch" "CNTTOCH"
