ChromeINTAKES 2g Intake Pipe with Filter

Ok, I purchased an intake from user: chromeintakes. Apparently, it's a company that specializes in selling cheap air intakes for a ton of makes and models.

I ordered it on Feb 21st and received it today, the 28th. So not bad on the shipping time since it came from CA.

When I got the package, the first thing I noticed is that once again, FedEx put a whole through the box. It no longer surprises me. Luckily, it didn't damage anything inside.

Air Filter:
In the top of the box was the filter. It was in its own box and wrapped in bubble wrap. The filter itself seems really sturdy. Construction quality is as good as I could expect. I don't think this is the same kind included in other Ebay intake kits.

Intake Pipe:
Next was the intake pipe. As soon as I pulled it out of the box, I noticed a pit in the pipe about the size of a wooden pencil lead. It's on the bottom side, so I can't be seen, so I guess it's all good. The rest of the pipe is covered in really small pits. I don't have a problem with them, but if appearance is important to you, you may want to have it powder coated. I'm fine with the way it looks. It's cast aluminum polished; plated with chrome on the outside.

On the inside, there were a few burrs around where the holes were cast into it and the inside welds weren't cleaned up too well. Five minutes with a Dremel and grinding stone and that was fixed.

MAF Adapter:
Not much to say about this. The one included is 3" and fits the included air filter. It is plastic. I can't see any way to improve this. It's just an adapter.

Couplers:
This is my biggest problem with this kit. The coupler for the MAF to the pip was barely big enough. I had to fight to get the couple on the MAF. Even the end going on the pipe was really, really tight.

The coupler from the pipe to the turbo was also sub-par. It was bigger the the pipe AND turbo inlet. I ended up clamping it to the larger lip on the T25. It still clamped up air tight.
Coupler rating: C

Clamps:
The kit came with 4 clamps, 2 for the MAF end and 2 for the turbo end. The one for on the MAF was too small. I had to use the stock clamp. The other large clamp did fit around the MAF end of the pipe.

The smaller 2 for the turbo end were bigger than they needed to be. They had about 1.5" of extra after tightening them. I just cut some of it off with tin snips.
Clamp rating: C

Accessories:
Also included were new hoses for all the things that connect to the intake. They were really low quality and I didn't use them. They looked horribly stiff. I already had new silicone hoses on. If you had the stock hoses, you might want to use these.

There were also 4 bolts to connect the MAF to the air filter adapter. These were stainless steel and were a good length. It's hard to mess up bolts.

OVERALL RATING: B-
I would buy it again, but only for the price. You can't beat it. I got it shipped to my house for $48 total. I don't have any need for a larger intake from FP or any of the vendors. I plan on upgrading my my turbo this summer, so I didn't want to waste good money on a smaller intake, or spend $30 on a reducer coupler.

Update on this:

I've now been running this for a bit more than a year.
I'm now running a small 16g and the coupler fits will on this turbo. The problem is, that coupler is now very very hard. They have lost almost all of their flexibility and have started to discolor from getting a little oil on them. The hoses must have been made out of the same material and have also hardened and discolored.

I'd now rate the couplers and hoses a D. They work, but don't expect them to last like a coupler of higher quality.

The intake pipe is still holding strong and the filter still looks good.
