Okay so today I was greasing up the pistons and walls wile the head is off so i dont get any surface rust, well I thought I would grab a socket and turn the crank slowly, i noticed it would only go about a turn and stop, then a turn the oposite direction and stop, i proboly could have turned it with some force but didnt want to mess anything up, other than that the pistons go up and down good for that first crank. Is this normal? Also i have a 6 bolt 92 eclipse gst.

If you changed out your bearings, did you accidentially mix up your bearing caps? Did you accidentially lay your crank down on the ground instead of stood up on the flywheel end? With your head off there should be no binding like that happening.

+1

Also never turn your motor backwards

To the right. A good test that I always do when assembling motors is set a torque wrench to 15ftlbs and put it on the front of the crank. You should be able to spin the motor without the wrench clicking.

I didn't build the bottom end the guy I bought it from said it was good, oh well that's in the past. Are the caps like the caps on the cams? they can only be used if they are the original main caps? That may be the problem because that's what he did with the head caps.

Not sure what your trying to say here. Did he get the main caps from another motor? Don't know why you would do that.

The caps can only be used exactly in the same spot and rotation as they were from the factory. If you mix them up and cannot remember what their correct order is, you have to get your bottom end align bored at a machine shop.

Sorry I was on my phone earlier and it over posted big time, so first off sorry for that. Second what I'm saying is the guy i got the car from used caps from another head on the head that was in the car and the cams would not move, so when I bought the car I removed the head, got a new one, switched everything over and done...not quite now i have this problem, and I'm willing to bet that he may have done the same thing with the main caps :(. Either way as bad as I want to sell it right now after finding this out, I guess I'm going to stick it out.

Well maybe it just a warped crank :) wishful thinking sense i have a couple of extras around! And if it does turn out that he used caps from another block I'm going to half to replace the hole block because the nearest shop that align hones around is in like Little Rock or Memphis, and it will probably be easier and cheaper to just pull a block from another car.

Pull the oil pan and see where it is binding. It may be something simple like turning a bearing cap around or putting them on the right main. I wouldn't jump to conclusions on what it is just yet.

Here's a video you can make fun of me ha ha, I just wanted to show you guys in some way what its doing.

I just got all of the bolts out of the oil pan, is there a special way to get it off or what, its hanging up near the trans, on the main cap

Okay I pulled the oil pan, and is makes a scraping sound closest to the transmission, kind of like its coming from the flywheel? maybe its a trans problem? If i pull that rear main cap and it doesn't turn freely then I would say either the crankshaft it warped or maybe its a flywheel problem?

Tranny is not in gear. I didn't put the motor in the car, I just took the head off and noticed the crank would not turn freely.

Automatic transmission?

With the inspection cover off of the lower front of the transmission, the piece that was holding your oil pan on, spin the crank and look for a spot that looks like it has been rubbing on something.

That noise might have been why the original owner sold the car.

Ive got a good feeling it is why he sold the car, Also its a 5 speed manual fully built jack's transmission, I did take a quick peak into the flywheel and i didn't see any rubbing but It's dark out now so ill try to diagnose further tomorrow.

Probably lost a bolt when doing the pressure plate and put too long of a one back in. J/King. Don't really know, but let us know how the inspection in the light goes. Cover the bottom of that motor tonight!

Well sense its coming from the back near the trans i figure first ill remove that main cap, and see if it turns freely, and go from there.
