What causes higher crankcase pressure?? I was leaking alot of oil from my car one day, so I decide to take it to my mechanic since I was short on time. He told me the crank seal was shot and that it must ahve been from too much pressure. He took care of everything for free so Im not complaining at all. I just want to know how I can avoid the situation again. I do have an oil catch can with the can re-routed back into the pvc. Thanks guys.

Oil leaks caused by a crank case pressure issue is normally caused by one of two problems. The first is excessive blow-by. The pressure that is built up in the combustion chamber is allowed to escape because of worn or bad piston rings. This will drive pressures too high. This higher than acceptable pressure is too much for the stock PCV system to handle and so seals, gaskets, dipsticks, and whatever else will start leaking the pressure out. This would not be such a horrible thing except that the pressure also blows out the oil at the same time.

The second cause for excessive crankcase pressures is a poorly maintained PCV system. Mis-routed PCV Hoses, a clogged PCV valve, Oil baked on to the valve cover, pcv valve, pcv hoses, and improperly modified pcv systems will prevent the pressure from being properly re-routed in to the intake manifold for combustion.

Great(exaggerated), I think the first anwser relates to me. My PVC valve is good, I also replaced it just in case when all this happened. Guess its time to save more money. :thumbdown
