It is very possible.. The harmonic balancer takes a ton of stress off the crank. Unless the car is a full race app where your trying to remove as much of the rotating mass as possible it is a very stupid mod to do. The crank would have to be very out of balance to cause it to break like that but it is stupid to put a none harmonicly balanced crank pulley on a DD or normally driven car unless it is balanced with the vehicle..
