So I know I have a short somewhere but can't figure out if this is supposed to be a code or whatever. I can't find it in the online manual either.
So last week while driving on the highway to pick up my GF from work my boost gauge stopped working properly and I noticed my rear defroster comes on by itself.
But today while driving home from a fellow DSMer's house (I was helping him figure out what was wrong with his car and found several problems), I saw white smoke coming from the driver side pop up headlight area. When I got home and checked it I noticed the smell was coming from the alternator area. Also while driving home the battery, brake, and coolant light all came on.
I know they all come on when a belt snaps but it's obviously just fine. Plus the smell, smells like it is electrical and it's a bit odd this happened before and my boost gauge and defroster started to not work properly anymore.
Can anyone tell me if this is a code to tell me what wire this is or if it's just showing those systems aren't getting power?
Can I buy a new wire harness for the alternator? I'm assuming it's the alternator wiring since it smells and looks like the short is in that area, plus it's the only area in my car where the wires have the outer protection of the wiring exposed. I have yet to find a noninsulated wire just yet. But I am sure this is the area causing my problems.
Is this easy to remove or is it attached to the whole engines wire harness? I can't seem to find any information.
