Well guys im back...i finally got back a dsm and i actually like this one...i got a nice trade on it...but the person told me that it had cold starting problems...so i figure u know its nothing major and ok i will find the answer...So it gets dropped of at my house and i go to crank it..it barely turns over and comes on for a few sec...i check the oil and it thick"I know i know that needs to be changed for the winter"....so to my next problem which i dunno if this could also contribute to the cold star issue but. I have a fuellab fuel pressure regulator and when i turn the key to on and the fuel pump primes i see in the 40 psi range but as i turn the key off the fuel pressure drop rapidly...so here is my setup its not tuned by the way so i dunno if that also a problem too but here we go

1996 talon tsi
6 bolt motor
HKS 280 cams
Sc61
44mm wastegate
550cc injectors
haltech standalone
built bottom end "according to the previous owner"
15psi
and that really all i know of the car so far

Any help please i wanna bring the car to a friend shop so i can rip the motor out and really build it

On the fuel issue, does it have an aftermarket pump by chance? I've seen people swap pumps and not get the line from the pump itself to the sending unit tight enough and once pressure was applies and removed it would bleed off. If you have less than a half tank you could cycle the key on and listen to the pump threw the fill hole for any pouring sound, might need a second person to cycle key tho.

I'd also have the battery/charging system checked. Otherwise do some research on the CAS i've herd of them causing cold start issues.

yes it has a walboro 255....and i do have less than half tank of gas...also i will check the lines to see if any of them are loose

Was their any paperwork included with this 'built' car?

Weak starting signifies that the Starter is either bad, isn't getting enough power (Bad wire or battery), or isn't grounded correctly.

LOL thats why i said i dont believe no one when they say there motor is built nor do i let it bother me cause im gonna do the whole motor over again...just need to figure out why its taking forever to start when cold so i can bring to a friends shop and rip it apart

i mean i hear it prime and everything but i dont think the car is getting enough fuel....could CTS be the problem...and causing the haltech to think its too hot and wont send out the fuel??...or other way around??

A faulty CTS will primarily flood the motor on start-up rather than starve it for fuel. I believe if the communication between the ECU and the sensor is off, the ECU goes into cold mode and dumps fuel like crazy. This will lead to flooded motors and fouled plugs very quickly.

If I had a cold start problem (not on E85) I would check the following..

1. Fuel System- including pressure to rail during cranking, sticky injectors, voltage to the pump ect...

2. Battery voltage- primarily cold cranking amps

3. Spark and Misc components- Coil pack, spark plugs, main relay, ptu, caso ect..

If you crank the motor and get nothing, pull the plugs and look for soaked electrodes and smell for gas. If they are I'd ohm your CTS. Good luck.

i just called the previous owner up and he said the plug normally get fouled easily...so i am guessing its getting too much fuel...but i will do everything i just said...also he had some pretty shady battery connectors on there so i bought new quick release connectors for security reasons

is it tuned? could be dumping to much fuel and causing cut off? or they didnt wire the pump right

nope its not tuned,,,also i installed the new cts and some new battery terminals...and even though she is still taking long to come on but not as long as beforeit and i have to pump the gas pedal a little bit to bring up the idles while cranking it

first make sure battery is fully charged and all connections are nice clean and tight, second check your fuel system, from fuel pump to injectors (including filter) and lastly check your ignition system, plugs wires coil etc. you should have a good idea of what the problem is after this, good luck:thumb:

well from all the smoke coming outta it and the blow by....the rings are shot "which" i knew wen i got the car...but it was a solid foundation to start on...so now i gotta hunt down a new motor...or find a good but inexpensive shop to do the work for me "smoke and blow by not that bad"...but dont see a point in tuning a f'ed motor...wen the new one goes in i will definately get her tuned

Oh ok, yea defintlay a waste of money to tune her, if the motor is blown, but good luck on the build man!
