ok here goes. When I first start the car and put it into gear, doesn't matter if 1st or reverse, the clutch will not grab until the pedal is almost half way up. It engages with a jerk, like from nothing, to almost all the way at once. Normally it starts to grab within 1-2inches off the floor. Also, i'm having trouble getting into first sometimes, it helps if I pump the clutch a few times. Could it be the throw-out bearing?
Block is freshly rebuilt...still in the break-in period actually. My crank was machined, which i've now read that is a no-no.
thanks for the help.

Few things you need to do...check see if your losing fluid by the pedal. you may have a bad slave cylinder, second, might just need to have the clutch bled. putting a ss line on mine worked at taking care of the pumping of the clutch pedal. I have replaced the clutch and slave and master cylinders. check and see if the fluid is cloudy in the slave cylinder. if it is, you probably would wanna start by bleeding the clutch line. Post back and let me know if it helps out...

I'm not losing fluid, just to clarify, the inititial "hard engagement" is only when I 1st start the car up. It only does it once, then after that it is ok. I dont have to pump everytime I try to get it into first also, just occasionally.
