I was thinking about what to do with my exhaust right now because my flex pipe has been removed. It is way too loud. I came on an idea that I would like to run by you guys and see if I've just lost my mind.
I get a larger than stock 2.5 inch flex pipe. I use a pipe reducer to fit that to my stock downpipe. On the other end I weld a short exhaust pipe to approximately where the cat 'used' to be. A single in dual out turbo muffler is connected here. From there I run one 90* degree pipe from each outlet of the muffler toward the side of the car, and put exhaust tips that come out near the back of the side skirts approximately 3-4 inches from the back tires. I could do this super cheap, and I think I could make it come out neat if I can find appropriate exhaust tips. Have I gone mad? Lol.

How are you gonna connect it all welds or clamps?

If welding... I would just build a system. If you measure twice and cut once, You should be able to build a full exhaust for under $150 for all parts. under $230 with a good muffler. That would be turbo back 3" all the way back.

And whats your budget BTW?

the question is not, will it flow, because of course it will. your issues come in at ground clearance and sound. will it sound good? probably, i dont see why not. will it clear your average speed bump? more than likely not. shoving a muffler in that channel can get tricky, and if you are awd its near impossible.

id say go for it, but use oval tubing or route it carefully. problem with oval tubing is the $ start stacking up fast.

good luck with it!

My budget is as cheap as possible. I know I could build a whole system but that's a pain. I figured this could be really cheap and easy but you guys are right. I'm not sure how clearance will be.

Well I scrapped that idea after getting underr the car. You guys will probably make fun of me but since I need to get it legal I put a flex section where the flex pipe used to be. Then I chopped off the stock muffler and welded on a spare flowmaster 40 series I had. I'm broke so my initial investment was 12 dollars. I know a flowmaster isn't ideal but the way I look at it, it can't be worse than the stock muffler. It doesn't seem any slower than when it was straightpiped, and at least the cops will leave me alone. Would anyone be interested in hearing it?

yea, post up a sound clip, im looking at some muffler options, and flowmaster is on my list. interested to hear what the 40 sounds like, even though its too big to fit where im gonna route my exhaust.

Let me tell you a secret. All the best people are!

And as far as the exhaust goes, I didn't think your original idea was bad, but if you don't have the money to take it to the rear bumper, or just dont wanna take the time, then why not just put some turndowns off the end of the muffler and leave it that way? You may want to run the pipe atleast back to the rear subframe area before turning it down because of fumes tho. Just a though.
