I was at the track last night and I grenaded my center diff and it went through the bell housing.:cry:I went to a local performance shop and they told me they dont make a better or upgraded center diff.I also looked on shep and tre and cant find anything about center diffs being replaced. Is there a upgrade or what would be my best route.

Is a kaaz or a quaife lsd a replacement for the stock differential?

quaife is a replacement, and i belive the kaaz is too. there is also a cusco available, but harder to find.

another and cheaper alternative is the 4 spider gear center diff from speed design. you can get it through tre, or directly through speed design, but you do need a stock one for them to use to modify it to fit the 4 gears inside it. plus the guys at speed design are great, and they know there shit too. I had one made from them, and they said if i am able to break it they would custom make me some stronger gears inside it for a small additional charge.

Speed Design 4 spider diffs can take a crapload of punishment and don't have friction plates to wear out like the Kaaz diff. I have been running my speed design 4 spider for 11 months now, thats 5 autox events, 16 hard runs at the drag strip, and my usual spirited driving.

There are upgarded center differentials on both Shepherd's and TRE's site.

So they can do it for a fwd to.So I will have to go to mitsubishi and buy a center diff assembly and send it to tre ot wherever and they make it from there. How much did you pay for yours?

You're fwd, you don't have a center differential. You have a front differential.

Ok so is that something totally different then?Would the 4 spider gear setup not even apply to a fwd.If not what are my alternatives now.

Quaife, Kaaz, stock replacement are the only options that I know of but I really don't know a lot about transmissions and differentials. If you want more information on them there are tons of threads regarding these differentials.

If your drag racing then the kaaz would probably be the best choice. Check out magnus's site for thier write-up on why thats what they recommend.

Com'on people, five replies before someone notices that we're talking about the center diff in a FWD?!

At this point, we can't even be sure the thread-starter didn't actually blow his clutch [or flywheel] (which seems more likely, anyway).

If pieces of metal came through the bellhousing, chances are it was the flywheel.

The front differential is not in the bellhousing, so pieces of it would not be coming through the bellhousing.

I have grenaded a stock front differential before, and it only caused damage to the intermediate shaft. The bellhousing was untouched.

Yes, A Kaaz or Quaife differential would be a great upgrade from the OE open differential. But I would recommend pulling the tranny and give everything a good inspection to determine what exactly happened and what needs to be repaired and/or replaced.

Some people have more than one vehicle and don't list them in their vehicle profile. I checked his vehicle profile and saw that he had a fwd listed. I figured he had an awd car as well since he was talking about the center diff. It's just simple misunderstanding, probably not even worth replying to.

No its the front diff,It put a hole on the inside of the tranny where the shaft is at.It is just two small holes.I already pulled the trans out I just wanted some advice on what I should do as far as a replacement. When I drained the fluid it was full of metal.Flywheel looks good.I saw that karking sells one for 750 bucks.Anyone hear about this one having problems,I dont wanna grenade another one of these.Im leaning towards the quaife for driveability purposes. If my description of where the hole is located i apologize I will take a picture and post it.

Oh yeah by the way sorry I put center diff I thought both of the awd and fwd had a center diff my bad.
