carbide burrs

I searched but couldn't find the answer. Anyone know what store sells these at? Ace hardware, lowes, Homedepot, sears? Can anyone confirm?

Arcet sells them or just about any machine or welding vendor. Or you can order from http://www1.mscdirect.com They usually always keep them in stock and if you order before lunch, they ship it the same day. When I order from them, I always have it the next day before 5pm.

Oh man I got screwed. I paid 25.00 for one bit and could have had that little set for a few bucks more. Balls.

Used ones on ebay is the only way to go. Often times they are "useless" to people who are machining really hard stuff, but will still chew through cast iron and aluminum like butter. I won an auction for $15 (+$5 S&H) and I have so many they wind up random places in my garage. One or two are missing teeth, but are still enough for me to have put a window in my exhaust manifold.

I bought a double cut carbide burr on ebay (shipped for $8!!). I just got it today, and i didnt realize how small it is, im not sure if i got a really small one:

its barely as long as my pinky finger, the picture made it look wayyy bigger then it actually is, i just want to make sure that their actually suppose to be that small....

Yes, they are that small. Anything much larger would be too large for a hand tool.

And the auction did include dimensions.....

Even with big chips in them, some of mine will burn right through an exhaust manifold if you stay in one place too long. Wear your eye protection

That will work. But for anyone else looking to purchase one I prefer a bit where the base of the cutting portion is a larger diameter than the shaft. This one has worked good for me. The base is 3/8" diameter and the length of the cutting portion is 1.25". Got it from Western Tool.
