I have about 100 miles on the new 2.3 and it still smokes like crazy. Is it normal for it to still smoke like that ? And whenever I come to a stop the idle drops and the car wants to die, and some times it turnes off. Yesterday i was driving, and noticed that the temp was way up, as far as the needle could go. Hopefully i didnt catch it too late. What kind of damage could that of done ?

The car should never smoke after a rebuild. Sounds to me like your head or head gasket are shit. If the car overheated that much you might be in trouble.

Did you ever run a compression test on the engine?

I thought it was normal for a car to smoke after a rebuild ? Oh and the car is burning oil like crazy. After driving it for one day, i had to add 3 quarts of oil. Hopefully its still breaking in.

Where do you think the smoke is coming from..................the car is burning oil. I don't mean to be rude, but i don't think you have any idea what your talking about. You really need to take your car to a shop and have them look at it. It sounds to me like you got screwed.

I agree 100% 5000+ miles on my rebuild i havent seen smoke at all, have it looked at
:beatentodeath:

theres a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. Even at idle, the white smoke is visible.

I would smell the smoke coming out of the exhaust. If it has a sweet smell to it then its coolant leaking into your engine. I would do a compression test and a leak down test A.S.A.P. Cause im willing to bet your headgasket is shot and or your head is toast.

Also said you had to put 3qts of oil in since you got it. Have you tried to figure out where the oil is going. Leaking out side of the engine, are you burning oil(the smoke would be blueish in color). Also check you oil for coolant. It will look milky and be very sticky kinda like syrup. And if the oil looks like this you should change it and stop driving until you get this sorted out. Belive me your bottom end will thank you.

Isnt all this what i just said????????

well, i talked to my dad and he said its probly my head gasket, like some of you guys were saying. But i have a cometic mls, would it go that easy ? Or is my head probly warped ? And is it normal for a new engine to burn oil ?

So its not normal for it to smoke after a rebuild ? Do you think the head/head gasket could cause all of this ?

As the others have said, it is either a bad/misinstalled head gasket, a warped head, or a warped block. The first problem mixed with some needle in the red action can lead to the last two problems.

Ok, so my dad will check out my car today. Hopefully its only a gead gasket.

Did ou have the head and block decked. Cause with the headgasket you put on there yo should have or atleast checked it for any run out. Cause if there was not a flat even surface that gasekt will not seal at all.

Besides what kinda boost do you plan on runnin. Casue i would only recomend you use that mls gasket for anything over like 25psi. Cause a oem with arp studs will hold till mid 20psi range, and theres ppl running them with 23-25psi still no problem, your tune being the factor there. Also its a good fail safe in the case or real bad knock or detnation. Being that your gasket would go befor any major parts.

I plan on running 21-23 psi on pump gas. But today I was looking for leaks and noticed some black particles in the coolant overflow tank, looks like parts of a gasket. What could it be ?

Will you stop asking the same question over and over again and do what we are recommending to diagnose the problem.

RUN A COMPRESSION AND LEAK DOWN TEST. That will tell you where everything is leaking so we can tell you what is wrong.

Good god man all i can do is this WTF WTF

ok, I will try to do those tests today. Thanks for the help guys.

im having the same problem with my exhaust smoking as well it is blue smoke and mine is also a new rebuild what do u guys think:ohdamn:
