I'm driving home on the express way and all of a sudden my car gets very very loud. I pull off the freeway to check it out. The sound is rpm relative and sounds like an exhaust leak the size of Texas. I couldn't find anything visably wrong though

My car is cooling off in the garage. I'll thouroughly check it out tomorrow.

My first impressions where that I had an exhaust leak. I think I smelled exhaust in the engine bay.

Has anything like this happened to anyone? Anyone think its anything else?

check out the basics tomorrow, if you can't see anything wrong start it up and find where the sound is coming from

This recently happened to me. My car got VERY loud, And even my bov sounded different, It sounded EXACTLY like a semi.
I looked the next day and found out that my two bolts holding the downpipe to the o2 housing had unscrewed themselves and I was running open o2 housing!

Seriously.

I want to build my own turboback.
It's pretty easy. I had fun doing my 2g.
It took a little extra work but I also ported my o2 housing, welded a 3" flange on it( A little tough being cast but not too bad) then I ground it all the way out so it flared smoothly into the 3".

i had a similar problem on my awd last summer ... it turned out a bolt (stud) had come loose on the exhaust man. ... it was one of the ones that goes to the turbo ... not the ones that bolt to the head
