Car idles very rough

I actually have 2 things that I need help with.

1. I just got my 1997 gst spyder and the head gasket was blown. I had the head gasket replaced and the head was sent in and pressure tested and resurfaced. Now the car runs real rough at idle when its in gear and semi rough when its it park, cause its automatic. It seems like it wants to die at stop signs. Every once in a while it will idle a little better but then go right back to idleing rough. Any tips?

2. My transmission is automatic and I want to do a swap for a 5 speed manual. I have got a list of some parts that I will need from other forums, but I was wonderingif someone had a complete list oof what would be requierd to do the swap.

If the head gasket was blown, then there might be more wrong then just that. It could have possibly overheated and did more damage. Due a compression and leakdown test. Check plugs and wires. Take one out at a time and see if it gets any worse.

I have done a compression and leakdown test. it had a full diagnostic at a mechanic shop, the compression was between 145 and 155 in different cylinders. I also have changed all four plugs with champion iridium plugs and all four wires. The car runs fine, except when at idle.

Rough idles, depending on the severity of it can be anything from vacuum leak to a bad cylinder or valve. you said you checked compression, did you do a leak down test as well? Also, i didn't look at your cars mods, but it is it "hunting" for idle by going up and down, or is it just rough and low?

How does the car accel? Does it feel sluggish at all? If thats your first dsm and you just now got it running it would probably be hard to tell, but it might be a boost leak.

Also is your Blow off Valve recirculated? All the hoses connected, to the intake and bov? That would cause rough idle/stalling.

it is hunting a little bit when in drive. It seems to go up and down between 800 and 1000 rpms but at times it gets ruff!! I think the shop did a leakd down test, but i will check with them. Thank you for the help.

I do not have any mods on the car at all yet. This is not my first dsm but it is my first dsm with a turbo, my other eclipse was a 96 gs. It picks up pretty good, but when it is cold it does hesitate a little, that might be normal though.? But idk. Thank you all for the help so far

Does it Idle better when the motor is cold then start to get worse as it warms up?? If it does check your egr valve. It might be stuck open causeing the motor to act as a big vacume leak!!

That is exactly what it does, it idles fine when it is cold then as it warms up it starts to hunt for an idle theh almost die, I have been so busy lately and have not been able to even open the garage to even look at the car. I will check the egr valve tomorrow after work. Thank you very much. I want to get the entire engine running completely smooth and sound before I start buying upgrades.

First of all get your self some NGK bpr6es 0r 7es. As for the auto to manual swap there are so many thread on it maybe a search would help!

Plus iridium plugs are the worst thing you can do for the car

Second on the NGK plugs!! Dont touch that car with anything other than NGK plugs and wires. For your stock setup go with the bpr6es
