Cant Rev past 4K

My car will not rev up past 4k, under load or off load, its running extremely rich and i dont know why, you can smell it running rich and black smoke comes out of the exhuast, when i rev it up it goes to about 4k peak and then fades down to about 2500K, what could this be? Maybe o2 sensor or Cat clogged? This just came out of the blue today..thanks!

If it's that bad it must have thrown the CEL. If possible, I'd take it to Auto Zone or somewhere where they will check the code for you for free if you don't have a logger.

Did it happen while driving?
If it's popping and backfiring and won't go over 4k, first thing I'd check is the timing.

If timing is good, I'd Check all four plugs and see if they all looked the same.
