I am new to the dsm world and i will explain to you how i came across getting my hands on a 95 gst. I have always owned hondas:sosad:, as a matter of fact all have been 2000 civic si's one with turbo and one na, but i traded my si that had 82,340 some odd miles for a gst that had 188,945 some odd miles. I drove about 2 hours to meet the guy to trade and we looked at each others cars and drove them around and everything seemed fine.

As soon as i left and got on the interstate the car started jerking as if it hit fuel cut and my turbo was boosting way to high so i made it 3 miles from where we met before i had to get off on an exit. I stopped at a carquest and i popped the hood and my manifold was glowing cherry red and i was only able to go about 45 miles an hour on the interstate or it would hit what seems like to me fuel cut. I wasnt driving it hard enough for the manifold to be glowing that red. Is it something bad or is it a simple fix? Any help would be appreciated. I am a complete noob when it comes to dsm's and i want to learn everything i can.

sounds like the turbo was going bad and crapped out on you right there and then..
When my turbo shaft broke it was because of lack oil. The ex. mani. always glowed red like yours, with simple 10 psi boosting, driving around town.
But like the poster before me said we need more detail..

The car is pretty much all stock except for an apexi downpipe and an ebay exhaust that doesnt have a cat. But other than that the gst is all stock. Would a bad turbo cause my car to jerk alot when im barely giving it gas and would that also cause it to have full boost barely pressing on the gas?

may be a clogged cat if it has one...wastegate could be sticking, the arm going from the housing to the flapper, make sure it is connected and apply vacuum to the nipple and make sure it is moving. let us know...

Definately sounds like a boost creep issue, thus leading to fuel cut. Im guessing that when you are driving 45 mph you are not hitting boost so everything is fine. Definately sounds like a wastegate issue, it may be sticking like someone above said, and the turbo keeps building boost untill fuel cut hits. Also check the turbo for free spin and shaft play, and make sure it is surely getting the oil and coolant that it requires by checking the lines. Is the CEL on?

I will b sure to let you guys know what it is, thanks for giving me good advice and im still learnin about dsm's, but back to the subject, when i am just cruising at 45 mph i am hitting full boost giving maybe 1 percent of fuel to it and the cel isant on so im stumped, i will be sure to check it when i get the car back to my house seein that i only made it 3 exits from where i traded so the car is currently at a carquest parking lot about 200 miles from my house, hopefully when this damn snow is done i can go get it with a trailer or dolly or something, i dont want to mess anything up by trying to drive it 45 with full boost for 200 miles. but thanks to everyone that shared advice, its really appreciated.

Where exactly is the car located? If its around my area I would be happy to come with a dsm buddy and check it out

First thing you do anytime you have a problem such as that is do a boost leak test. It's unlikely the turbo is shot since that really won't cause the car to misfire bad enough that you would be stuck at 45mph. Check all of your basics first. Do a boost leak test, IC Pipe Tester, then pull the plugs and make sure it has the proper plugs. For a stock dsm go with NGK BPR6ES plugs gapped from .028" to .031". While you have all of the plugs pulled it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a compression test either. You can rent one from any parts store if you don't have one, How to do a Compression Test. From there you can begin to diagnose the problem once you are sure the car is boost leak free, has the proper plugs and the engine is in good working order. While at a parts store, if they have a scan tool available it is always a good idea to check for any pending codes. As well as have them check the the front o2 sensor is fluctuating properly.

95 black is correct. First thing you should do is boost leak test it. The manifold will glow when it is boosted hard. This is not and indication of a warn out turbo. Let us know what the compression test yields. Is the car smoking under acceleration? Does the jerking only happen at wot?

As soon as i left and got on the interstate the car started jerking as if it hit fuel cut and my turbo was boosting way to high so i made it 3 miles from where we met before i had to get off on an exit. I stopped at a carquest and i popped the hood and my manifold was glowing cherry red...

i would'nt think a boost leak would cause this. there is a restriction. In order for the manifold to be glowing "cherry red" within 3 miles of driving. throwing flame fronts out of the manifold in a lean situation under heavy driving maybe, but not in 3 miles. I would do all of the above, but i would find out what is keeping the exhaust from getting out first.

Bad o2 sensor makes the most sense, explains the glowing manifold and the added boost condition, like mini anti lag.

and just because it irritates me, not everything can be solved by a boost leak test. I understand that alot of people overlook that when its relevant, but he stated the car was over boosting at part throttle. I feel better now. :)

Hello to everyone and again thanks for the comments and suggestions, its highly appreciated. So last night i had finally decided that i have had enough with the car being almost 150 miles away from me and i wanted to get it to my house before all the snow was about to hit AGAIN. I had a good buddy ride with me to winchester, va which is where the car was located and i was bound and determined that i could get the car home and i did but i unhooked the wastegate from the housing and it ran ok just no boost until high rpms. On my way back home, i had made it about 70 miles right before i got to shenandoah mountain before west virginia and third gear started grinding and it felt like to me that the tranny mounts just arent right but i was just figuring i would ask someone elses opinion by giving further information. Any time that i would let off the accelarator it seemed like the shifter would move slightly. Could it be the mounts or could it be something else? Overall the trip went good because i got the gst home. im just lookin for someone elses opinion on things.

"i unhooked the wastegate from the housing and it ran ok just no boost until high rpms."

I should have said that i unhooked the rod that went to the housing because thats what i did, all i did was pop it off and it seemed fine. Also another problem was that when i was driving down the interstate and switch lanes or when i would take a left turn there seemed to be some kinda weird noise. I havent be able to look at the car other than when i went and got it because im not about to be up to my knees in snow.
