A mechanic replace my old motor with a Japenese 4G63 Motor and never ran right since. The cam sensor is in the front of cam on the pulley, the normal spot is supposed to be on the back of the cam but there is no threads to bolt the pickup wheel to the back of the cam for the sensor. It runs very rich, backfires, takes to long to start, and wont idle. should the Japenese sensor work with the american computer or will i have to put a new intake cam in order to bolt in the pickup wheel to work with the american sensor. HELP!!!! if the sensor doesnt sound like the problem please give me ideas on how to fix it.

New plug
New plug wires
New Mass Airflow Sensor
No codes coming up
Timing belt on correctly
New fuel pump

Ignition is 180* off with that sensor.

A couple things you can do. It is basically the same as a 95-96 motor so you could swap plug wires 1-2 and 3-4 and it would work with using the sensor that is on there.

You could also put one of your stock 97 cams on the intake so you could bolt your old sensor back up.

I dont think its 180 out or the car wouldnt start/run..

I was reading something the other day on the JDM swaps you have to reuse your old cam/cam gear and original CAS for it to work. THe 97-99 CAS are different from the 1g or JDM.

It can do what he was describing when it is 180 out. Happened to me the first time I did a 6 bolt swap in my 95. Just had to swap plug wires 1 with 2 and 3 with 4 and it ran. Easy thing to just try first.

you right i just did a jdm motor swap and i had to use my old cams and gears and cam angel sensor, the reason why you cant use same cams it because it doesnt have a thread to bolt the cam shaft.

its the same problem as when you do a swap to a 1G head or complete 6 bolt form a 2g. its an inverse signal so swaping plugs would fix it. also dsmlink would fix it too.. i just swaped a 1g head in my 95 and got rid of the of the 95/96 style cam and crank sensors and went with a black top CAS made this much better. that cam gear you took a picture of was off of a 95 or 96

We tryed swapping the wires and it didnt work. We are in the process of trying to find a new cam for the car since we no longer have the original motor.

Thank you for the help i will post the outcome when we our finished.

Instead of replaceing the CAM shafts i am going to get a 1G Sensor, i will pick the up tomorrow. I changed the spark plugs around many times and finally have got it to run with the JDM sensor but it still backfires and takes awhile to go after i press the gas. I am hoping that when i change the CAM sensor to the first generation one it will fix that problem. Also when i disconnect the Mass airflow sensor the car runs better and doesnt backfire but still takes a few seconds to go after i press the gas. Transmission seems to be in good condition so i dont believe that is the problem. Could the mass air flow sensor be faulty or what else could the problem be because the MAS is new. Thank you for all of your help i wouldnt have gotten this far if it wasnt because all of you.

hey i just got a mits eclips 95 and i think it has the jdm, and i got the same problem, it runs rich, takes a while to start, and it has the cam sensor in the front.., ### do u recommend me doing??

sharky559 do exactly what this guy did!!! duh! he said it fixed the problem!!!! so follow suit and fix it!!

ok but if i get the 1g cam do i still hav to mess around wit the spark wires?? or put them back lik the repair manual says??
