Calgary,
Hi guys, just wondering how much good a rear brake caliper rebuild kit is....I'm looking to free up a frozen/seized caliper and I don't know if there is a kit that will help me? I've heard of a "seal kit". Any info is helpful. Thanks guys!
Sandy

The rebuild kit from the dealer is the seal kit. It just replaces the rubber seals and boots.
I think I paid about $25 from Rockville for each side. Here's what's in it.

The seal kit won't fix your seized caliper but it will help you keep the brake fluid in there when you are done. Honing the cylinder and polishing your piston should fix the problem.

Tip for polishing the piston: You might find a rubber sanding drum the right size to fit inside the hollow back of the piston and allow you to rotate it with a drill for polishing. Otherwise, stuff it with aluminum foil and and a screwdriver bit.

Good replies guys, so bottom line is, I can rebuild the calipers and they'll work?

Yup. Seizing is caused by corrosion (rust). You might consider having you brake system flushed to prevent reoccurance.

I regularly rebuild and clean my calipers for preventative maintenance, however if you have a frozen caliper more then likely the piston has seized to the inside wall of the caliper. I would recommend getting a rebuilt unit from a local shop as the have the professional tools to fix the calipers. They also (should) replace the pistons in the caliper.
a new caliper is only 60 bucks from napa.

just noticed you have a 90. are you sure its frozen? aren't those the kind you screw back in instead of press? Also the price should be even cheaper then that, 60 is for a 2g front.
