Found a new company on Ebay that sells mandrel bent pipes in 16gauge and stainless. Their prices are very reasonable. I bought a 180 mandrel, a 90 mandrel and 2 sections of 4'pipe all in 3" 16 gauge steel with shipping for under a $100.00.This should be enough for me to build my exhaust from the turbo back. I just got the 2 mandrel bent pieces and they look awesome. Check out their store.http://stores.ebay.com/Mandrel-Bending-Solutions

If i were you i would look at pictures of aftermarket exhausts and size up how many and what degree bends you are going to need. As long as you can weld you should be able to make it yourself with some work. What kind of muffler are you using?

This is definitely a good way to Do It Yourself ... I've done this on many cars I've owned, even a few friends' cars.

My favorite technique is "sectioning" the piping by cutting notches out to create a bend - not only does it look killer if done right, but some really tight bends can be had relatively easily.

I would love to build a 3" turbo-back exhaust for my DSM ... I just need to get another welder, hah.

Definitely a good price on stock, I used to use whatever AutoZone had on their shelves.

My plan is to run this as straight as possible with as few bends.I will be running a 40 series flowmaster only because I already have it from another project. Should have no problem building it since I have been a mechanic for over 10 years. been at it a while making and fixing cars. Thanks and if I can I hope to do a writ-up for it and maybe they will let me put it in the tech section even though I am a new member. Will do more post to update

Just wanted to pop back in this thread and show everyone my new downpipe. Just finished fabrication and got it all tacked together. This is a full 3" pipe so I had problems with getting clearance around the oil filter and alternator. With this setup I have about 1.5" clearance. I got my idea from another members thread. His name is dj.Let me know what you think. Travis

I finished mine with a 6' section, a 2 foot resonator, 8" flex pipe and a cat. It was just about perfect. If you plan straight through 8' might be a little short.

Thanks xveganxcowboyx. I built my whole exhaust using 1 180degree mandrel pipe,1 90 degree mandrel pipe and 2 4' sections. Also used a 6 inch flex pipe and a flowmaster 40 series muffler. I built the downpipe ran straight back to the gas tank and exited out the side of the car just in front of the right rear tire. I really think it looks awesome and will post some pics with it installed. Travis

Looks good, wonder how this type of "segmented" exhaust stacks up against mandrel bent tubes? (performance wise)

The welds are built up alot more than it shows on the pics ,I just leveled them out. It should flow pretty well considering it is still a full 3 inches and the reason it looks so segmented is becuase of the material I left behind from the welds. It has to flow alot better than stock and I am pleased because I made it myself and it has plenty of clearence for the alternator and the oil filter so heres hoping it works well. Thanks to all for the input. Travis

I second those welders. My bro does it underwate for a living and thats all they use.

Now i must say ebay shipping is a hole in the pocket. The first price looks fine but shipping screws you. I can get the same thing from summit for less probly. Good post though man

Believe it or no the welder I use is a clarke gas or gaslees that I bought from North tool & equipment witha cart for $400.00. I have had it over a year now and have had no problems and it will weld up to 3/16 steel. I have run probably 50 lbs of wire through the welder with no problems whatsoever. And when I bought it it came with the hardware to hook it up to a tank. I am very happy with it. Travis

I agree that ebay shipping can kill you but these pipes I bought all at the same time and the company gave me a break on the shipping. The pipes cost me $70.00 and the shipping was only $24.00. I checked legs and summit and the closest I came with either one was around $120.00 so its all in where you want to buy it. The company I dealt with sent my parts out very fast and I got them in a week so I will buy from them again. Travis

if your vouching for them, then i second yours. I was just commenting that summit has the same type of deal really. Although i couldent see there shipping rates, you say your is better so thats what it would be from experience.

Sorry to bring this back, but I had a question about welding stainless. Do you have to do anything else special to weld it? And I was wondering if you can get stainless weld wire (I'd be using a Miller mig) to do the welds cause I wouldn't want the welds to rust...I'd rather have it all be stainless. (I know, I'm stupid-anal.)
