Broken half shaft and other assorted issues

So the other night, I was driving down the highway, and BAM, all power gone, shaky wheel, the works. The last time I had a similar thing happen, the car threw a rod. Luckily, after towing it home, jacking it up and having a look, it looks as though the drivers side half shaft sheared right where it meets the hub of the wheel. Pic of what happened:

From there, I cleaned out all the shredded metal pieces that exploded down by the bearing, etc, and installed a new half shaft in there yesterday. Went without a hitch for the most part. Now to my concern: after putting in the half shaft, it drives... differently than it did before, it's hard to explain. The steering feels a little looser, and it generally doesn't feel as grippy and solid as it used to. There's also a concerning whirring type noise. My question mostly is: is there anything else that could have broken when the shaft broke, or something that broke that could have caused the shaft to break in the first place? jack up the car one side at a time and grab the wheel on each side try to move it back and forth and check for play. could be a wheel bearing going bad or tie rod end.

I can say for sure that there isn't any play on the left hand side; the side this happened on, because that was the first thing I checked for after fixing it and reassembling all of it before setting it down off the jack; I didn't check the right admittedly but I'll certainly check for that when I have another chance at it. Is there any possibility there's differential damage anywhere, because that's what I'm really concerned about at this point...
