hello all. Im very knew to dsm's and was wondering if its possible to change the flex plate without completely pulling the tranny? I bought this car for my son about two weeks ago and after about 200 miles it broke a balance shaft belt and it got under the timing belt and you know the rest of that story. while i was in the motor I went ahead and eliminated the balance shafts and installed another oil pump, water pump, belts, pulleys and tensioners. Started the car and now this.

you can but it ####en sucks ass hole man :( you have to serpate the tranny drop all bolts to the block unbolt the bolts to the flex plate 1 by 1 you will have to turn the crank from the front side >within the gap only way GL

no idea how it broke. but it does look as if the bolts are rubbing on something. I wasnt even on that side of engine except to drop the transfer case and I couldnt see how I couldve done anything wrong there to cause it to break.

all I know is that I took the car to an import shop to get the head and all fixed and they took the pulleys and timing cover off the motor and called me to come get the car because they didnt want to do the job. At the time I took it over there it wasnt broken because you could turn the engine over and couldnt hear anything. I got the car back and fixed the timing problems and as soon as i turn the key i could hear what i thought was a rod bearing but instead it was the flex plate. I really dont know how they couldve have broken it either. Does anyone have any ideas how i may have broken it?

Does anyone know where I can get one?

when it jumped time I did have to replace the crank sensor but i figured when the balance belt broke it wiped the sensor out. I called myself checking shaft endplay. But if the bolts where rubbing on the converter side because of crankwalk you would think that the new crank sensor would be toast by now.

Yeah I would agree, the new sensor should be toast if its that bad. Only thing you can do is pull it apart and see whats going on in there. Post some pictures if you can!
