Burlington,
I bought a BOV this summer and never installed it. I had money floating aroudn so I picked it up. Now I have some questions.

#1. BOV on automatic? Will I still get the benefits (pressure release, the cool sound, etc)
#2. Install the same?
#3. How do I install it? Any links to pages would be great

1. Yes it will be the same.
2. Install will be the same.
3. First, make sure you have the correct flange on your intercooler pipe to fit the bov. If it's correct, it should be a simple bolt on process. Connect all hoses respectively.

Be warned though, if your aftermarket bov is venting to the atmosphere, your car will run like poo and run rich.

It recirculates back through your intake system. Thats why our cars run like crap if it vents to the atmosphere, the stock mas has already metered that air.

What mods can be used to compensate for the bov venting into the atmosphere? Being that the fuel is richened. And what kind of power loss are we talking about?

1.yes, you get the sound when you go off the throttle.
2. 3. install is the same as long as the flange fits, you can either get an adapter for the 2g or a new uicp that is flanged for the bov you are using. Basically, if you get a solid uicp with the flange you need, just put a gasket, maybe a little silicone, and bolt the bov right on.

Just try and get an adapter or something if it vents to atmosphere, so that you can use a tube to go back into the intake. The stock bov has a hose that runs back, and you should be able to utilize that to recirculate, you can make it fit usually. If you want to vent to atmosphere, you're going to want to get a gm maf and translator. You can do a search to find more info about that, I don't remember it all off the top of my head. hope that helps.

I will agree with all that was said before me.

If you are keyed in on venting to the atmosphere, I bought a RFL, welded the flange on a pipe, put it on the car, and had no ill effect at all. sounded great on the high ways and even at low rpms. You will run pig rich and you will prob notice it when going to the gas station cause youll be filling it up more. I ran it on 15psi daily on my automatic 95tsi.

Like I said I agree with everyone, have it recirculate, but if you must have the sound, I think its better to vent on the automatics, since the BOV doesnt vent like a 5speed inbetween shifts.

to do the vent to atmoshpere...You need like a MAF-T setup... Do a search on here for it and youll find all that you need.

Thx for the help. I already have horrible gas mileage so was wondering if it's worth installing this BOV anyway.... I get about 200 miles per tank city, and 280 highway.

yes to not run pig rich you will need the MAF-T. If all he wants to do is run the car stock and hear the car venting and doesnt mind running rich, the he should be fine venting without the MAF-T. If he does I would recoment getting a better BOV so it doesnt leak at lower boost.

It depends on the car as well. There are plenty of us out there that are/where venting without the MAF-T that have experience no ill effects. But some do have issues like the car stuttering or shutting off when you come to idle etc.

I enjoyed every bit of venting withouth the MAFT with the RFL. It was loud as heck and on the high way it certainly got the attention from other who wanted to play.

Yhea man you can vent to the atmosphere the 2gs maf is good enough. Hell I det aroung 175 or 80 if im lucky. But I got a heavy foot, auto dont vent during shifts so you wont do bad with loosing boost, I have a real nice apex set up and enjoy it:thumb:

Im sorry but this is completely wrong information. Go do a few searches before you make a reply saying "2g MAS is good enough to vent" because it isnt, you might not notice a difference in how your car runs but in the long run it will catch up to you.

Original poster, if your set on having a loud BOV go with something that will be loud recirulated, like a HKS ssqv(need to buy the special recirc. fitting for it) or a Greddy type S. All the install is all the same like said above, you will just need a flange for your upper IC pipe. If you choose to get a HKS you can get them with a universal adapter flange that will slide right in your stock pipe and can be clamped on, then just get the recirculation fitting for it and your set.

Yes, please do not vent your BOV. Do a quick search on "venting BOV," or look in our FAQ sections and you'll see why venting is usually a bad idea with these cars. It isn't an issue of whether or not the MAF is "good enough," it's how the the intake tract is configured... there's no way around this problem while using the stock ECU save for a GM MAF/MAF-T system.
