1G Boost leak I can't find with BLT.

So I replaced my SMIC with the VRSF FMIC and replaced the J-Pipe/TB/BOV gaskets with OEM gaskets as well. I used thread tape on the J-Pipe barb fitting as well as the BOV flange. I used all new clamps for the BOV return line as well as the vacuum line and the J-Pipe to wastegate vacuum line.

I used a angle grinder to cut off all the "nipples" that are no longer used minus the valve cover breather which I have a my catch can in between. Once I cut them off I filled them in with JB Weld and let it cure for an hour and a half. Then I put the coupler over those areas as well.

For the intercooler couplers I used the T-bolt clamps that the kit comes with. I tightened them til they maxed out and made sure the couplers went over the piping as much as possible on boh connecting pipes. They are on there TIGHT.

The J-Pipe was a bi*** but I did manage to get those bolts torqued down.

When I start to make boost, even 1 PSI it makes a SQEEEEE sound like a f***ing kazoo. I did a BLT to 30 PSI (I only am running wastgate) and hear/see no boost leaks when I use soapy water.

But sure enough you hit boost AT ALL and it starts making the damn noise.

Any ideas?

Last time I had a leak I could hear during boost, it was where the jpipe bolts onto the turbo. This is the only leak Ive ever had that I heard

Is it a squeel or does it sound like air is escaping? It could be your belt slipping making noise. If it is air escaping, it would surely be detectable with a BLT esp. at 1psi.

Smoke test and you're done. That will find leaks less than a millimeter. The SQUEEEEE is the j-pipe, had the same problem.

How did you manage to get the bolt that was semi-covered by the J-Pipe fully tightened? I can barely fit a tiny 12mm wrench on it.

If I remember right I used swivel joint and an extension. I also covered both sides of the gasket with ultra grey rtv.

No leak found during BLT, >> could be the turbo itself squealing, check for shaft play

Convert to allen socket head bolts

I had considered shaft play. The turbo has zero shaft play in/out or side to side. I'll have to look into allen bolts.
