i want to mount a boost gauge where my center vents are. i was wondering if there are any dangers or things to look out for when installing them.
other words.. is it safe?

I can't tell you specifically if its dangerous or anything, but I'v egot my boost, egt and a/f gauges in my center vent and have had no probs. I say go for it. I've always liked vent gauges instead of the pods.

The only thing to look out for is making sure that the center gauge pod you purchase doesn't put the gauges too far apart. If they're too close to the ends then you'll have inteference from the screws that hold the center cluster to the dash and your gauges won't go all the way in.

Something like this is good:

They're not too far apart so the gauges will fit properly. Don't bother with the triple gauge pods, just stick with the dual ones.

See, this puzzles me. I put my boost guage in my 2G vent. With the vent still there. I marked around the guage in white marker onto the vent, used dikes to cut the vent things, ran the boost line from further back in the vent, and i stil have air flow. An EGT guage will fit in the second vent in the center as well. And you still have air flow. So why would you wnat to spend the 40 dollars to eliminate the hope of any air comming from your center vents (the most important might i add) when yo ucan retain the cooling use of them? I just lways wondered.

Oh and by the way, it looks bad assed IMO

When I get rid of my A/F gauge I'll prob just leave the 2 gauges in there or get a different gauge that may serve a real purpose. I don't really see how the center vent is the most important. Then again, I'm ditching my A/C so don't really rely on the vents for cooling my ass off.

Some people, like me do care. I dont want to sweat my balls off for what, like 4 HP? But some people do it because they want every HP avaliable. I had a convertible, i wasnt ognna be fast without a turbo upgrade anywyas so i didnt care.

well i took your guys's advice and took the vent out, and the boost gauge fit just perfect. i then took a dvd case and drilled out a 2" hole cut it to the size of the single vent, ran the tube , and popped it in there. it looks pretty good.
thanks for the input. :thumb:

i don't worry too much about it being hot in my car. i just roll the windows down a bit, open the sunroof and drive. only on really hot summer days and when trying to get into the como zoo or something does it get hot in my car. i always cut the belt for the a/c on most of my vehicles if possible.

Not all center gauge pods block airflow from the center vent. The one I pictured was just a cheap run of the mill example. A good one will have slots between the two gauges so you can have your center vent still functional. That's part of the reason why I wouldn't recommend a triple gauge holder for the center vent as well.
