I've tried closing the boost controller all the way and opening it all the way and it seems like I'm still overboosting like crazy(21 or more psi sometimes).Hoses are all connected, that I know of.Any ideas of what it could be?

Did you install it backwards?

Yes its very common that people install the hoses on the wrong connectors. I would check this. If it's some cheapy boost controller with a crappy spring/ball that could cause the problem as well.

I noticed that you have a 16g in your profile. I don't know if thats current or not but if its the "mad boost creeping" evo III, then your problem may not lie with your boost controller at all.

This all happened after i installed my sbr fmic.It worked fine before that.No it's not backwards, the bottom nipple on the b.c. should be hooked up to the wasgate actuator right?.It's an extreme manual boost controller.

If your sure the mbc is hooked up right then try swapping boost controllers and see if that cures it. I know my Evo III creeps up to 21 psi or higher on pump gas and I have an external dump. If it still creeps then your gonna need a bigger wastegate flapper or an external wastegate.

I can't find a pic of the boost controller, but I've got a manual boost controller (JoeP MBC) on my Jetta, and the bottom port of it goes to the boost source, the side port to the gate.

How can I check to see if the wastegate actuator is working properly? Can't seem to find a how-to on this subject.TIA.

Should the wastegate open all the way when you apply a certain amount of psi?Does it depend on how the boost controller is set?(closed ?open ?)

The wastegate will open at a given pressure. It should open at the threshold (whatever you set it at). It will depend on how the boost controller is set. The wastegate has it's own pressure it is set to open at, like how external gates have different springs in them.

If you want to eliminate the question of the boost controller being an issue, jump out the controller entirely. Hook the wastegate directly up to the hose to the pressure source. If it opens at a lower pressure, that means the wastegate is functioning properly and your boost controller is either broken or not hooked up properly. Just make sure you keep an eye on the boost gauge. If it shoots up to the 20+ psi you've been seeing, get off the throttle. The wastegate is jammed shut or broken.

I tested it and it opens but not all the way.Just barely and way up in the 20 psi range and it doesn't hold the pressure.Sounds like it leaks real bad from where the rod is.

Okay, your wastegate actuator is shot. If I had my stock turbo, I'd hook you up with one but I sold it. See if you can find one in the classifieds.

At least you now know what the issue is.

Well I installed a new wastegate actuator and it's still didn't fix the problem.WTF?I know my boost controller works so what else could it be?

If you remove the actuator arm, can you move the wastegate open and close easily? Remove the o2 housing and take a peek. It just sounds like an issue with restriction.

Yes,I tried that inbetween changing the actuators. That's why I'm so confused.

nope, I don't know if you relized that they just told you that the boost source is suppose to have the vac line on the bottom and the wastegate to the side. So what you have stated meens you have it backwards. Change it and then message back about it, or if you already did try then nevermind. Just clairifying things (Can't spell sorry:sosad: )

Two things:

1. You hooked up the MBC backwards making it build unlimited boost
2. Flapper is shut close or sticky doesn't want to open.

Its one of these because I've had experienced soo many different boost control problems its not even funny, its either the Flapper on the wastegate or MBC.

Ok I found out that my wastegate actuator is not opening the wastegate all the way. What's wierd is that I know it used to work fine before I installed the fmic. There isn't any restriction but the actuator doesn't push far enough to open it all the way.

I have read that a lot of times the exhaust and o2 housing wont allow the gate to open all the way sometimes. It could just be a faulty boost controller, i know when I had the TurboXS on my car, I coiuld never get it to set right, so I went with the JoeP and its great for a MBC. Oh, make sure you have small vac hoses for your MBC, they eliminated all of my boost creep.

 The thing is that the boost controller works fine. It's the wastegate actuator that doesn't push the flapper open enough. This is just starting to fustrate the hell out of me.
