biggest cam with stock ECU

I have a 96 GS-T and am sending my cams to Delta. What is the largest cam that will work with the stock ecu? Or does it not change anything with the computer?

I see the only issue with bigger/longer cams being the idle quality, I had BC272's with a stock ecu and it idle'd 'ok' but there was more to be had with tuning.
I know 264's idle well with the BS under the hood gone, the real 'v8 lope' is what your trying to avoid?

From talking to Delta the biggest they will do is 280cams or 280intake/288exhaust. But they dont know if the car will run without a/f being adjusted. Why such extreme cams? Planning to go with a HTA GT35r in the future. My dream setup is the 280/288 combo. Can I just turn up the idle if I have an issue?

If your running anything over a 272 Its recommended you upgrade the valvetrain. The size of the cam wont make much difference until you begin to tune/compensate for the changes.

Get 272s. Then sell them for almost no loss when you upgrade the rest of your head.
What's kind of setup do you have now? You don't have your mods listed in your profile. There are a lot of other things that can be done before cams.

I will tune with DSM link in the future. I just have the head off since im rebuilding the motor and would like to do this now then tune later. Dont get me wrong im not upping the boost without injectors and tuning I dont want to blow anything up. I know tuning, more boost, fuel upgrade, will get the most out of it but if it will "work" until then that would be great!

Sorry I dont have my mods listed yet. If it matters; ACL Race main and rod bearings, ARP main studs, ARP rod bolts, cp piston rings, 4 layer mitsubishi MLS headgasket, ARP headbolts, 1G head, 1G cams, 1G intake manifold, 1G throttle body, stainless tubular exhaust manifold, stainless 3" o2 housing/atmo. dump, 2.5" stainless UICP and TB elbow, TurboXS RFL BOV, forced performance 4" intake, K&N filter, redline oil, redline trans fluid, lightweight flywheel, 6 puck unsprung disc, 2600pd. pp, intake manifold heat spacer/gasket, air breather filter, and 3" turbo back exhaust! Also brand new everything in the engine bay and trans. Suspension is loaded too!

If you already have the head off I'd get HKS 272's, valves, springs, retainers, oem composite headgasket and standard ARP's or L19's.

I just listed that i have the arp bolts, the oem mitsu 4 layer headgasket. My head is already rebuilt also, problem is to stock specks. I just paid $425 on the head. I dont have enough cash to redo it. I can get cams and thats it before I finish reassembling the head. Unless with my mods anyone thinks I should do other mods on top of what Ive done and wait till im ready to upgrade the valvetrain to mess with the cams. To my knowledge the 1g cams im using will have .010 more lift than the stock 2g's.

No matter the dsm cam (except the galant gs cams: rare), they all are terribly restrictive. And one of the two reasons why honda bois rag on our "power per psi" with stock blocks.

I seriously doubt you will need any more cam that a 272 regrind. I mean look what they can do Holset hx40 makes 685hp and 584tq<==obviously he would benefit from bigger cams, but do you plan on going to the 600whp range? . . . What is your goal?

HKS 272s and the Delta regrind which is just like them idle fine with the stock ecu, slight lope. You do not need to upgrade the valvetrain with these cams either.
