I recently bought a crappy 1989-1999 universal import headunit installation kit that came with like, 50 or so poorly made plastic inserts and what not to mount my headunit into my 95' eclipse. I put the stock back in after all the work I spent installing it because it was so horrid looking.

Does anyone know the model number or maker of the kit they used to install theirs with perfect results? I'm going for the best looking kit, not nescessarily the easiest to install since I install these all the time. There are a few more opitions out there for eclipses than I thought.

I tried going the cheap route this time, I should have known better. Never again.

I ISO mounted mine and used the 88-00-9000 pocket. i think it looks better and the 99-7001 doesnt allow for a DIN mount below the radio and i wanted to put my safc there.

so I should get that kit + the 88-00-9000 pocket on that site?

Moved to non-performance.

P.S. When I ordered my radio from cardomain they give you the install kit for free. I had to cut off the tabs I wasn't going to use but It worked fine.

I'll snap a pic tomorrow if I get a chance.

Thanks for the move =)

Yeah, normally when you install them there's instructions that say which tabs to cut off. When I owned my jeep I installed 2 head units in it and the kit that came with is was extremely well made, the plastic was nice and what not. Well, I don't remember the companies name, but it sure wasn't the one that I had tried to put in my eclipse.

It also gets a little more complicated because I want the pocket thing, but the kit I came with included a place to put a pocket.. but didn't come with one. So I'm afraid if I order the kit in this thread that was posted, it won't come with a pocket and I'll be in the same prediciment I'm in now.

I hear bestbuy has a kit that includes a pocket and is 95' eagle/mit only kit.

Thanks so far for the quick posts

did you use that little trim piece? i didn't.. i didn't use the one from my stereo either, cause it doesn't fit... kinda ugly.. but heh.. oh well

It didn't use the trim peice on the install kit however I did use the trim peice on the deck.

youre right it comes with a pocket but if you look at the top part, that little trim piece that goes accross the top lowered the radio like a 1/4 inch or so and didnt allow me to mount my safc under it so i used the pocket under the radio and covered it with a blank piece of abs plastic and surface mounted my afc (i only used the pocket because i couldnt find a blank DIN cover that would isomount). so, if youre not planning on mounting anyhting under your radio you can use the kit no problem

So that's the one that comes from crutchfield.. eh.. I seen that one about $15 plus shipping..

Do you know what brand/model number that is? My local shop might have it

use the stock brackets that the oem radio mounts with then get a pocket or mount someting else under the radio
what he said!!!

i didnt really find the whole mounting kit idea so appealing.. so i took the stock brackets and modified them...

here is what it looked like (stars represent the holes in the brackets)

(sorry it puts them together but it doesnt recognize spaces i guess.. you get the idea)

i had to drill 2 holes on each bracket about 1/4" lower so i could mount my kenwood kdc-6015 to the stock brackets.. i already had a cheapy plastic pocket so i just mounted that under the radio... not bad for free :thumb:

I ordered that Scosche POS. It took me an hour to get it in because you almost have to take the whole console out to get it mounted. Then when I got it mounted, I noticed that there was a lot of play in the cheap plastic construction. The pocket was only good for 2 discs, as well. I was very disappointed in it. I tore it back out and drilled proper holes for my deck in the stock metal mounts. Now, it's a very sturdy mount and I challenge someone to steal my deck. You would have to rip out the console and find a way around the security screws. It beats the hell out of the "slide-in" mount.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE PLASTIC MOUNTS. THEY SUCK BUTT!

The stock one is perfect for me....

YEah, I don't understand why a foreign deck (Sony) didn't want to mount correctly into a foreign car. The holes just didn't match up for me. One set put the deck out about 1/4 of an inch too far and the other set of holes sank it too deep by about 1/4 of an inch. The deck was also too low in the stock holes. After drilling, though, it looks perfect. If I owned a digital camera, I could take a pic, but I don't. I'm a loser. :dsm: :p

I had a Sony Xplode unit and that fit perfectly into the stock mounts...you sure you didn't put it upside down :p j/k
