Balanceshaft tips

Ok i been slowly replacing gaskets and seals. I need to get the balance shaft bolt off so i can replace the seal. I tried to use the belt as leverage like you are suspoe to but the belt snapped and bolt is still tight. How can I break it loose with out a belt on it and with out damaging anything? Im on a extreme tight budget so i dont wanna have to get a new gear as well.

I don't know how much supplies you have but if your going to do this, have you ever thought of doing a balanace shaft eliminator kit? It's kinda a pain in the butt to do while the engine is the car but when its done you dont have to worry about it anymore. And the kits are real cheap. Something like 40 bucks or so.

Yes I know about the BS elimination. but its not in my budget nor time frame. Im just replacing a few seals to fix any possible oil leak.

if you vave acess to the bottom of the motor you should be able to put a piece of hardwood between the flat side of the BS and the block itself to hold it in place, then soak it in PB Blaster and use a pnumatic air wrench (air impact) if you have one. That should get'er off without damaging anything. The hardwood is not hard enough to marr anything up, and should keep the shaft from spinning if positioned right. Using an impact will help too, as it will have a "Hammer" motion when turning which helps break stubborn bolts loose. As for the BS eliminator kit, I would not suggest it since your car is a DD. It's great if it's a track car, but for daily driven cars, the trade-off is not workth it. I gave the same lecture to a friend of mine, and he did not listen and did it anyway, before he knew it, he was vibrating parts loose-to the extent that the trans-block bolts loosened up, and 1 was half way out!

Remove the screw on the balance shaft tunnel on the side of the block and insert a long screwdriver in there, that will hold the shaft in place while you turn the bolt. You could also try wrapping the broken belt around the balance shaft gear and holding it with channel locks.
